Serious question, does anyone actually still f*** with trap beats these days? I mean they had their run but most sound so generic now. For example, I f*** with Boldy James on alchemist beats but I just checked out some of his non alchemist stuff on AM (Latr) and it’s just so generic and trash. Same thing with Benny the butcher, one of my current favourite artists but his 1 on a 1 mixtape is so f***ing bad and it’s all down to s***ty trap beats. I know there are still people putting out albums with good trap songs like future for example but for the most part trap being the go to sound needs to stop imo. When you hear the generic ass trap beat kick and and then you hear the auto tune you know you’re about to get some mid😂

No. But we're at the point where trap beats being the default for mainstream rap is an autopilot thing and we're patiently waiting for the next malleable sound

Not yet but soon. I’d say 3-4 more years before we see something different

  • Feb 28, 2020

of all the charting rap songs, the only ones that aren't really trap beats are dior by pop smoke, sugar by brockhampton, and say so by dojo cat and even then you could easily argue trap's influence in the first two since drill took off from trap and sugar still has the hi-hat rolls and 808-ish sub bass

Trap beats are dope but i dont like the generic ones.

Gunna been using the same beat for 4 years

  • Feb 28, 2020

no, it's just that they've become so ubiquitous that you don't even realize that every song has a trap beat

  • Feb 28, 2020

We need more creativity w the drums sounds and arrangements. S*** sounds all the same nowadays. Back then producers took real ass pride in their drum sounds and grooves nowadays they interchangeable

  • The change is happening now. The last couple albums i loved werent on that trap sound heavy. Its only a matter of time.
