when a “professional” recording artist has access to an elite team of mixers and engineers who have incredibly fast turn out rates, there’s little reason to give your absolute best vocal performance.

there’s plenty of ppl who do creative things and it’s not to diminish their work, but we are far from the best tbh. ppls vocal performance held so much more weight. i think the most interesting vocal performer in recent memory was x, just bc of the raw authenticity of his early material. i think pop smoke also had a really great delivery too.

we also live in an era of hip hop where imitation is sadly embraced and has become a respectable part of the game. it really wasn’t cool to bite ppls flow, but now it’s more acceptable than ever. it allows artists to be very versatile, but it does cause for lots of mixes to sound the same, in an effort to be successful.
