I guess it makes sense to look to the females since the new guys aren’t contenders but honestly I think it’s always been two different leagues for men and women in hip-hop on some WNBA s***. The women don’t compete with men or beef with men or measure themselves against the men. They compete with each other. I def think Meg, Spice, and Sexxy could be a Big 3 of female rap but until a new generation knocks them off male rap big 3 is Drake Kendrick and Future (was Cole but he 4 now)

Quick question? Do we really need a Big 3 or is that some social construct s***?

Everything we do as humans is some social construct s*** outside of eating sleeping and having babies

You don’t want to go down that rabbit hole trust me

Its really obvious the new big 3 are

    Megan Thee Stallion
    Ice Spice
    Sexxy Red

And the main ones rotating in and out are other women as well, if men were making the same moves and numbers they would be labeled the new big 3

    Sexxy is the best one

True but what I mean is that the concept of the Big 3 didn't truly become a thing until the 2010s and the previous decade had numerous hitters pushing the culture forward and still being impactful.

Albums: Take Care, Good Kid MAAD City, Nothing Was the Same, Forest Hills Drive, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, To Pimp a Butterfly

If there’s anything tangible, anything you can actually point to and justify the conception of the “big three” all bs aside - it’s this. Until any new folks have this type of thing, I don’t expect a new consensus big three

No hate to any of those artists, or female rappers in general, but the main thing, for me, that is holding female rappers back from being in big 3 convos (except as bait or as jokes, like this thread) is the fact that while they are moving units and have dedicated fanbases, the content in their music is still not very varied at all and, as a consequence, their work still feels shallow to me.
I like a lot of the Cardi B songs, and Meg can rap her ass off, but as far as super popular female rappers go, the content just isn’t there yet. It’s fun music to dance to, which is extremely important for the music landscape, but still isn’t enough for me personally to see them as big 3 material yet.
Yes, there is Rapsody, and other female rappers bringing the content and getting more artistic, but they don’t seem popular enough to qualify for big 3 status yet either imo.
When Meg makes her TPAB or MBDTF, I will get on board, but right now, I can’t see it.

Also, idk why we can’t support female rap and expression without using the tired talking point of “they’re totally wiping the men too, you guys” popping up.
There’s room for both, and 2024 has been an amazing year for male hip hop as well so far.

yea the creativity ain't there. plus her albums always sound "of that time" and not in a good way. Traumazine came out two years ago and already sounds dated.

Plus the way her albums are structured are just too plain. Gotta have the street records, the club songs, pop songs, r&b songs... it's all very formulaic. But she's not the only one who structures her albums like this. a lot of rappers that came up with her have this structure.

I think her albums feeling bland and formulaic may be because of a lack of confidence on her part, and a feeling of needing to fill certain niches “or else.”
She could really benefit from a Rick Rubin type of figure, someone who would help her build confidence, find a vision, and execute it with no concessions to what she thinks will sell or what she thinks she needs for her fans.
No one will ever be more excited for an album than the artist is, so she has to make music that truly excites her
