Yeah. This is more about how listeners have been conditioned to not sit with albums.

I do think it’s starting to correct itself as labels and artists see the downfall of this trend mainly from subscription based music consumption.

I hope companies put back value into physical and digital download sales

Would be hard to teach an entire generation to not use their phones for music because they’re used to the convenience.

But would be so worth it.

Idk, I was at my local Target and saw teens younger than me looking at CDs and Vinyls.

Maybe it's niche right now, but I have hope it'll grow eventually.

When Apple stopped promoting iTunes and went towards promoting Apple Music. Everything changed :(

Problem with that is cars don’t even have CD players anymore and laptops don’t have CD drives

The killing of iTunes really was the nail in the coffin. Took away peoples ability to have their own years long built up library that’s all theirs.

Instead they have to rent music and not really have any of it of their own.

Same with buying a movie digitally. You don’t really own that s*** lol Amazon is licensing it to you

    Uzi sold 59k with EA

Gunna sold 80k with The Last Wun

Lil Baby sold 70k less than his last album (with bad reception)

And nobody takes Yeat seriously as an artist outside of hypebeast niggas.

Future, Carti, and Travis are the few niggas that can probably survive the next 5 years.

And with Trav, Idk if he'll be able to continue finessing the machine any longer

U said 70-80k like that’s not good lol

Plenty of people love Yeat he’s just not a critical darling or like by old heads
The truth is everyone named is doing very well including clipse

The people ACTUALLY moving the sound tho is of course the younger folks tho
Yeat had a commercial peak last year and is 5 years into his career I don’t see why the doubt

Using sales for this anyways is silly. Was chief keef not running s*** in his prime? He didn’t even chart

I think the "shift" people are talking about is how dry mainstream rap has been this year which has caused people to pay more attention to the Indie, underground, or legacy act albums.

In 2022, we were fed very well but rap had more mainstream dominance on the radio and Billboard back then which made things feel more segmented.

But I was bumping albums from many of the same artists OP named on top of Denzel, Vince, Lupe, Black Thought, Benny, Black Star, Logic(yes....he dropped a dope one), Boldy James, Little Simz, and many more.

Because rap was more dominant though, the niggas who were digging through the digital crates and those who were mainly focusing on mainstream s*** were more separated compared to today.

Now, even Drake is having trouble making his new hits stick and it's been pretty dry in the mainstream overall which gives people more time to focus on other types of rap. A very similar thing happened in 2014 too.

Totally agree first half of 2025 def felt like that which also gave room for a whole crop of new artists interestingly I think it’s important to have these periods

They are heavyweights but I think that persons right that they’re just having their comeback.

Kendrick is the better example of someone who would shift the culture possibly

And maybe a culture shift doesn’t have to necessarily be caused by the music. What if allot of our culture shifts had an underlying cause like instruments, DAWs, YouTube/SoundCloud, etc. We used to use turntables and spray graffiti; now we tweet disses and buy designer. Maybe the actual culture itself has to change before the music can.

A real shift gotta come from the youth that’s when you know it’s real

Clipse doing 118K first week speaks for itself

It was a great moment (and album) fueled by nostalgia (ba dum tss)
They're not a part of this "shift" yall claim is happening or want to see happen

Yall need to be championing new artist to do whatever you want to see in hip hop
It won't happen cause people in their 30s bought Clipse merch by KAWS

When an artist is able to get Carti on a song it immediately stands out, If he was handing out features left and right it wouldn’t hit the same.

it sucks but this the truth when it comes to artists like frank or carti. there’s anomalies like yeat or future who can constantly crank out music who are just about as equally big however, in order to constantly drop as much as they do requires them to constantly evolve their sound so listeners don’t get fatigued which is tough af, or you could take the drake route and get criticized for always dropping the same album.
