  • Charlie XCX, Chappell Roan, Brina Barpenter, Orod, Billie Eyelash, Ariana all got some solid bodies of work out rn, so it's got me thinking we are in the era of a golden age of pop music.

Probably the opposite tbh but every genre is struggling these days. There is some cool music out there but the names from the past decades look mythical in comparison.

2000s alone had Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Britney, Gaga, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Amy Whitehouse, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Rihanna, J-Lo, Fergie etc..

80's had Gloria Estefan, Diana Ross, prime Madonna, the GOAT Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney, Tina Turner, Chaka etc...

But as I said--you compare the names from todays generations to the past, in any genre--and todays generation will look poor in comparison.

Few years, sure. But the 2010s had massive pop records from huge stars that I dont think we've had any this decade--of that caliber. It feels a bit like a hipster pop era where these ladies put out solid projects and have devoted fanbases and put up good numbers but don't have worldwide massive hits like prime Rihanna, Gaga, Beyonce etc.. and pop is THE hits genre.

Could be wrong, though. But as mostly an outsider to the genre thats how it feels to me. Charli bringing it back though

You're partially right. I think thats because of the streaming era, it just doesn't feel that huge and big anymore like it used to be in the 00s and early 10s.

On the other side we're just older now and many young people around the world love Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina at the moment. They're kinda very big (especially Taylor) but it just feels different for us

Taylor the weirdest one as a non fan cause she's so huge yet I don't hear her music(or maybe I just don't know it's her). But I feel like in the early 10s/late 00s she had some big records. The Bad Blood song, the Shake It Off song, the cheerleader in the bleachers song lol

Whereas now I guess she became more of an album artist?

When I was a teenager and hated all music that wasn't rap, even I couldn't resist the power of later Madonna, Destiny's Child, Shania Twain, Gaga etc.

Now I'm old, way more chill and open to pop music and didn't hear a single potential classic from any of these new girls.
