( edit i mean the Momma outro) so short but i LOVE the manicy feel of his delivery and those drums holy f*** and the subtle production
He sounds like a dope sick crackhead tryna get a new bag to explain his insatiable need for his roots and culture
S***s crazy
All the different deliveries and tones he use over the whole album is incredible
They’re hits, but none of them should go in his top 20 songs
Diamonds and touch the sky shouldn't go in his top 20 ??
speaking of new tiny details, "for free" came up randomly on autoplay on youtube and i just caught this: "i need 40 acres and a mule not a 40 ounce and a pitbull"
i always knew what the "40 acres and a mule" referred to, and the juxtaposition and contrast between these two things. but i didn't catch that 40 was used (also intentionally used) in both the items juxtaposed. and that 40 ounces could metaphorically mean 40, but 40 "somethings" but of a lower unit, (ounce compared to an acre) with the extended meaning of acres x ounces meaning beeing given WAAAAAY less. crazy
Bro what are you on about lol
Bro what are you on about lol
to be fair, the (measuring unit) nuance i caught isn't CRAZY crazy, but it's something to notice (for lack of a better word) and the 40/40 thing was dope
i didn't realize (until now) that when he said that 40 acres/40 ounces line he used 40 twice, to further accent and emphasize the contrast between the two different set of items.
"i need 40 ACRES and a mule not 40 OUNCES and- " with acres and ounces both being measuring units, a meaning i inferred here, was that the difference between these two units emphasize just how much less is given, in the two sets of items.

wild but accurate description and yes, the variety of delivery styles + tones is wild when you couple them with him also utilizing these to take on perspectives of other people

I honestly can’t tell if you know what a 40 oz is or not

You just writing a lot of words for a simple bar that rappers been using for 25 years

replying to both your replies.
sure it's "a lot of words", but it's also how i interpreted this line. i'm sure some of the nuance may not have been intentional on his part, but i thought the 40/40 thing was clever after catching onto it just now. wouldn't surprise if it's a somewhat of a common line (i mean obviously with your example) RIP Steez, i haven't heard that song though
bro what
an artist can follow up their debut album w/ w/e they want
U can’t compete against Drake or Kanye or other greats if u fail to 1up your debut album
Being overrated is the main point people try 2 get thru to bandwagon kdot stans and TPAB riders,
Kendrick is still da man tho
Yal saw what overratedness did to J Cole or it was age idk
S80 is Kendrick’s best album
GKMC has the heart of LA/CALI
Nobody listens to TPAB because it was not good
Diamonds and touch the sky shouldn't go in his top 20 ??
Nah, maybe Gone or Hey Mama but when you think about that entire discography, that’s a tough one

Idk but Late Registration is a classic plain and simple
TPAB is not just a rap album. The way they incorporated music rather then lust loops of samples and drums on here.. that's what really makes it stand out. I remember people were talking s*** like "Andre 3000 did this s*** almost 20 years ago, this jazz s*** nothin new" But Outkast never would let music get that loose and instrumental oriented. Oh and how Kendrick rides those beats oh my man
By regular people I mean music listeners that’s not blinded by Kendrick’s new fame
"New found fame" s*** came out almost 3 years after he got famous
"New found fame" s*** came out almost 3 years after he got famous
It was the d riding time frame of Kendrick, Control- Goosebumps
That’s how being overrated goes, yo 2nd album should u still proving yoself
I just disagree, still think it’s great. Just not an undisputed classic. Most people have never even heard more than 3 songs from it.
Most people haven't heard more than three songs from almost any album post iTunes lmao, that's just the world we live in
