"state capitalism" argument is just some discarded trotskyist nonsense that makes no sense that got picked up by people on the internet, nobody actually believes it and it doesnt hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny. ive written out here why china is still socialist in this thread with links to Lenin, if you dont like the argument thats cool but the idea that China was able to advance from being a colony to having monopoly capitalism is just obscene and laughable and would be the biggest anachronism in human history, as no other country has been able to replicate such a feat.

What’s wrong with the “state capitalist” argument? I’m genuinely curious.

well it depends on what definition of the phrase theyre using. if they mean the state acts as a singular capitalist than its total nonsense because capitalism is predicated on competition within the internal market of a nation.

if they mean "state monopoly capitalism" like Lenin uses it in is writings, which is to say, an advanced capitalist state capable of imperialism, this also doesnt make any sense, China's role in the world economy didnt change when Deng and the right-wing of the CPC took over. even if capitalist restoration did take place in China, the country would be underdeveloped due to foreign domination (which is what you saw in Africa and Asia following the fall of the USSR), it can't simultaneously be the workhouse for the entire western capitalist world while also ascending into imperialism. the western nations became "state capitalist" through primitive accumulation (the theft of land), genocide, slavery, and colonialism; how was China able to somehow not only attain the same economic status of the western nations without conquest but also do it in a shorter window?

there's a lot of problems with this theory that should appear obvious to people but unless you're actively thinking about China's history and the role they play as part of a global economy its easy to just not get it.

Late stage just means “of late” as in recent. People distort the meaning. So yes we are in the latest stage of capitalism
