Honestly rap just missed out on two generations of mainstream development
Juice / Mac’s mainstream arc / Pop / XXX all being cut short and Carti and Uzi’s album issues meant it was already neutered heading into COVID
COVID just destroyed rap. Roddy, Dababy, Meg, Polo G etc was an era of rap that just couldn’t handle the extremely label-dependent and socially withdrawn dynamic
The post-2021 underground can barely find their wings in the path of everything else that’s happened. People from yesteryear stagnated (Lil Baby, Thug, Gunna(?), Durk)
We’re basically developmentally in 2019 still
