you got burnt by the light and, it hurt your tiny peepee, so u went to uncle Aster to cuddle u on his lap instead similar to those who walked out of uncut gems, because it's so different from sandler's other movies
I always felt midsommar was missing something, after seeing the lighthouse it became obvious what it was
like how u might like pepsi, but after trying coke for the first time u find it that much better, so u start not liking pepsi as much as u did before
Chill, Letterboxd Jock.
and u prefer aster's?
The thing is I was very excited for Midsommar (watched it twice in the same week, something I literally have never done before) but at no point did i ever think it was a perfect movie and once i saw the lighthouse (which I immediately thought was perfect) it became much more obvious why
there couldn't be anymore similarities between the 2 directors; same age, same genre, both got 2 movies, both released in the same timeframe, same distributor etc...
I can see why someone would like the lighthouse more but what is this thing aster was missing that is now so apparent to you?

I didn’t say I prefer one or the other
None of the things you listed make them comparable as filmmakers. Neither of their films share the same influences or are touching on the same themes. I don’t even think Lighthouse qualifies as a horror film, there’s nothing frightening or disturbing about it. It’s more of a black comedy than anything which makes the midsommar comparison even more dumb.
The only reason I haven’t copped this yet is because I’m still holding out hope for a 4K directors cut release at some point
I can see why someone would like the lighthouse more but what is this thing aster was missing that is now so apparent to you?
Aster is just too afraid to commit to his own ideas, unlike eggers who commits to them regardless of the current norms. Hence why you find one more entertaining than the other

I can compare whatever i want lmao, send me the "comparison" rulebook once u find it
Pretty sure I wouldn't consider Midsommar horror either in that regard, at no point did it feel scary at all, also the last 30 minutes were pretty funny so if u want u can consider it a black comedy too
Just cuz you don't see the reasons why one is better than the other, doesn't mean that they are not there
If u enjoy both equally then good for u

Okay, how so?
Should I peep this or lighthouse T
You should watch both honestly. Depends on the mood I guess.
Okay, how so?
it's more "entertaining"
by entertaining i mean generic if it aint obvious

How is midsommar generic and how does in not fit his vision?

It doesn't have a strong point that you go back and say, oh that movie was really strong at XY
It's a slasher flick trying to be artsy with a twist at the end, there are a million of those, u just change theme
I’ve only seen the director’s cut of this movie and I watched it in theaters. I legit felt uneasy watching all the events that transpired.

Midsommar is a slasher?
I’m done.

If I’m not mistaken, a group of friends went to this place then, they started getting picked off 1 by 1? or am I talking about a different movie?
Glad your done though, this argument was boring

that’s not what makes a slasher film but go off.
Oh rly?
By that logic most horror films are slashers.
just say you don’t like the movie and move on. Stop trying so hard to find pretentious nonsensical reasons to dislike it.

Aster himself said that the movie was first pitched as a straightforward slasher but he then slightly changed the script after he broke up with his gf. I just looked this up.
Do continue spewing your unpretentious knowledge though

the visuals? the performances?
I don’t even f*** with this movie and there’s nobody who won’t say that those things weren’t done really well. you grasping at straws b
hate this movie and never stepping foot in eastern europe either cause i believe this stuff is real
y’all need to stop arguing with Bane and just block him. dude has some of the most nonsensical opinions on this site and purposefully writes his posts in the most elitist tone possible. blocked him after his Irishman meltdown
