When you're on a major label, you're not releasing on your own schedule. If the label decides to shelf your music for a minute, then that's that.

This plus you can't just constantly deop with out givin albums time to breathe

It feels like so many artists now (in the mainstream) make it their mission 2 drop as little music as possible

    Why?

everything is teases, “leaks”, snippets, n now “eps”

very disturbing trend that has been on the rise 4 several years now.

i think a lot of people don't understand how many of their favorite artists are considered a failed investment by their labels. they are on the shelf and not their label's priority anymore after not making as big of a commercial impact as expected. so a rapper will have to constantly tease tracks online and prove they can get x amount of engagement, views, likes etc. to secure a release date

Because outside of the street artists Drake/Kendrick were the last real generational talents lol and most everyone else is stretching their one trick as long as possible

But some talented people do this too like Frank

    This

it’s not that simple. firstly a lot of these artists have deals or a&r’s or other execs telling them when to drop or what to drop. also it’s very hard to clear a song/album you gotta pay producers the cover art designer engineers featured artists etc. also art is a very personal thing to a lot of artists so for them to just drop constantly it’s not very easy when they probably have been working on 3 minutes worth of material for several months/years. also some artists aren’t as prolific as others some end up with writers block or it takes a long time to craft a song rather than someone like wsg who can make a record in 2 days.

    Name checks out

    Also entirely facts

Many are signed to labels that make it so they can’t drop

why? Doesn’t make sense given that the overhead is the lowest it’s ever been

Even if they won’t open a budget, the artist literally can record at home
