The merch. Name and overall aesthetic of Grateful Dead on paper sounded so cool. I like their music tho but it took a while to grow on me
their merch / logo > music
crazy cuz Zappa is the greatest artist of all time
Heard so much about his "incredible guitar playing" and multi-instrumentalist magic blah blah then checked out Guitar and Shut Up n Play Yer Guitar and was unimpressed. Dude's cover arts is what pulled me in but his music pushed me away. With that being said, he has a few that I enjoyed (Hot Rats, Grand Wazoo, Waka Jawaka, Sleep Dirt) but not loved.

not sure where you got multi instrumentalist from, he was only really known for guitar
but yeah those 2 albums definitely aren't for everyone and no way in hell i would recommend them to a novice/non-fan
a lot of people get turned off by a few albums and disregard everything, but im assuming you've heard a fair few of the core ones to have that opinion. seems like you're one of those who likes the more pure jazz fusion stuff only
lucky daye, i go crazy over any neo-soul, “trying to bring r&b back” artist but that nigga cannot sing. bro needed kaytranada to make a good song

Ngl it took me a lil minute to get into Zappa. He’s one of those names I would always hear in the legendary rock acts convos. Apostrophe was my introduction to him and I’ve liked the rest of his discog. Not a huge fan but I like what I’ve heard

Apostrophe is one that gets recommended to newcomers a lot, but it wouldn't be one of my first choices. I think it might not even scratch my top 15ish studio albums by him
some people are definitely destined to never like him unfortunately
Might catch heat for saying this but Beyonce.
She's one of the most mult-talented artists ever but her catalog doesn't really match up to her talent imho.
And I say this as someone who loves 4 and her self-titled album.
Agreed 10000%
Queen
Grateful Dead
Kiss
Gentle Giant
Heart
I can’t get into the Grateful Dead for the life of me lol
Lol how do you sound good on paper
General concept of the artist, art direction look name
Gesaffelstein tbh, his sound design and aesthetic are great but his work consists of too many underwhelming loops
Pshhh you just haven’t done enough d**** while you listen
