It's estimated that 30-50% of musicians have some form of tinnitus. I've heard insurance for tours is a reason most don't talk about it, nobody wants to invest in concerts that could come to a halt due to the artist's fragile hearing
Imo it's lowkey irresponsible, artists should be more open about the dangers of working in a studio/performing live for years on end, plenty of us have it here just from listening if we're being honest
It's crazy to think our musical GOATs probably all have some degree of hearing damage that we just don't know about, but who are artists who have actually spoken about it?

"It's crazy to think our musical GOATs probably all have some degree of hearing damage that we just don't know about"
Why is that so crazy? And are you implying we're entitled to know these people's medical histories/issues?

No lol, I mean stuff like it's weird to think Kanye's probably walking around with a ringing in his head all the time considering how loud his studio sessions are said to be, like so many artists must have considerable difficulty making out everyday sounds but don't show any signs of it
I don't think we're entitled to anything, but if hearing damage is the widespread problem in the music industry that it statistically has to be, it's weird that it's never brought up and that artists don't talk about ways to protect your hearing more often
There should be more widespread knowledge about just how bad regular loud music listening can be for your ears, headphones in particular are used by so many people at high volumes and that's like a point-blank shotgun for your eardrums
It took an Apple update to remind us hearing damage is almost guaranteed unless proper measures are taken
Yeah, I listen to music wayyyy too loudly. Can't even imagine how f***ed a lot of musicians' ears are
had a coworker who was in a semi successful metal band in the early 90s
told me it was never ending hell, constant ringing
wore special earplugs almost all the time, didn't seem like it bothered him but from the few times he talked to me about it was obvious it was a constant battle mentally
look after yourself people
i became more wary of using headphones or just loud music in general. I always make sure if i play loud music its on pair of speakers instead of headphones. Its serious issue which isn't brought up enough

This feels like a copypasta
I have it, and honestly, it makes listening to certain albums intolerable, such as Loveless

Speakers are definitely supreme

More people need to know about this, it's all 'Live Fast Die Young' and 100% volume until you get tinnitus/hyperacusis and can't use headphones without it causing physical pain
