What he was saying is that we have and had homophobia, transphobia, etc in our communities and we still need to combat that and fight for their needs too (and if you have been paying attention in recent years we are and do). But at the same time, I can empathize with you when you say there are a plethora of white "progressives" who preach intersectionality until it doesn't directly affect them and leave us behind.
Edit: But I also disagree that we need just stop f***ing with them as an whole altogether

cozeHey, man. As an Asian American, I've definitely seen the racial tension between our communities first-hand for myself. I'm glad you brought up this discussion because it's something we need to talk about instead of sweeping it under the rug.
The reason there's any prejudice from Asians towards black people in the first place is white propaganda. Whites made us want to hate each other for their own good, especially with the model minority myth and everything. Factor that into how a lot of Asian immigrant families don't start off in the best neighborhoods when they first immigrate to the United States. They set up businesses in these areas because these are the areas they live in. Due to systematic oppression of black people, these neighborhoods are predominantly black, so they see the crimes and decide for themselves the stereotypes created by white people are true.
They start adopting prejudiced and racist attitudes towards black people, so black people think Asians are just like whites. Blacks start being hateful towards Asians, so Asians think blacks are racist against them. The cycle continues to this day.
I hope you got what I'm trying to say here. I feel like a lot of the tension between our communities is caused by misunderstanding and miscommunication on both sides. Especially with the language barrier, our black and Asian parents weren't able to voice out their concerns.
Unfortunately, they instilled some prejudice into their kids as well, so while they were taught about fairness and equality in school, they still had some prejudice going on due to what their parents told them. This is true for both blacks and Asians, but definitely more true for the Asian kids.
Just wanted to know I got your back, bro. It's sickening to see so much hatred, but change starts with a conversation. Thanks for bringing this up.

ElliniaRacism is really, really complex. I'm very conscious of how it's woven into society, but I only realized this a few years ago. As long as there is a bottom group and a top group, the inbetween group will try to associate with and get access to the top group. Often at the expense of the bottom group.
This is behavior seen in almost all social settings and many social animals. You can observe a similar phenomenon on a smaller scale in children as young as 5 years old in elementary school. The nerdy/uncool kids play with eachother, the regular kids play with eachother and the popular kids play with eachother. The regular kids like it when the popular kids give them attention and play with them because it raises their social value. Meanwhile associating with the uncool kids will get you grouped in with them, at the bottom. Some will bully the nerdy/uncool kids to cut all association with them off.
Obviously it's a different setting and racism is much more complex than this, but it works in a similar way. As long as hierarchy exists people will want to dissociate from the bottom, and climb up.well put

As a gay man (Iām Hispanic too but imma just give you my experiences with Gay first) you probably feel the worst oppression if your parents are super religious/enforce religious like itās crazy. Id say my parents were mid when it came to that although they never really āforcedā me to go to Church. I know thereās discriminations with jobs and how youāre dealing in school when getting bullied but that all depends if you in the closet or not (I was in the closet)
growing up at least till high school I really didnāt feel affected by it since I was more of a nerdy kid who just wanted to do good in class. I still did in high school but ya know people start dating/having s***for the first time possibly in high school and once hormones hit me like every other kid I slowly became paranoid and kinda lived that double life type show. So it f*** with me mentally but I never got beaten. Probably easier with people growing up right now than how it was in the 70s and 80s though. but thereās probably a giant push because they fear people will try and turn on them again especially with trump being the face of hate, but I think every minority is slightly shook from him too
Being Hispanic or black is definitely more tough to deal with than just being gay. Probably only if youāre in the deep rural south with some weird ass conversion therapy mfs.
