Everything can lead to corruption and the most brutal dictatorships in history have been capitalist ones. Nothing is perfect but socialism has a pretty amazing track record when it comes to boosting living standards for working people.

They weren’t all collaborating but there was evidence of significant support and conscription to the freshly arrived nazi forces in the thousands in some of those regions ie autonomous republics. Trying to deport or figure out who was collaborating with who would be much closer to ethical cleansing because it would basically bring back ethnicity-based pogroms on behalf of the government. I think it’s a f***ed up situation but a lot of s*** back then was that way

People that consider themselves socialists and marxists often do frame China as still being in the process of "socialist transition" i.e moving towards communism

But for that to be the case there has to be significant moves towards a socialist path and I don't consider them really doing that to a significant degree. Theyre just doing trade and international investment its just still capitalism, just with a legacy of communism theyre holding onto
