There is nothing in the way Netflix has branded itself that suggests in any shape or form that they're chasing prestige. They only care about stats and dominance even if it means pissing off an entire industry

There’s way less money in theatrical releases than people assume. Sinners was a massive success and reports estimate that it made the studio only around $60m. A studio like WB is probably making a couple hundred million max in theatrical profits a year. In a bad year they might even take a loss.

It’s pennies compared to the money Netflix stands to make if they can fully replace theaters

With WB they’re inheriting deals and structures they’ve never needed or had before. Theatrical releases will probably stay. We are years away at least from any massive change there

I just think we’re assuming too much about the Netflix of now being the exact same as the Netflix post-WB acquisition. I personally think they’ll adapt an identity that matches what they will own and inherit.

This is a company that started as a dvd rental mailing service. It’s continuously altered its goals as it’s evolved. Obtaining an old Hollywood jewel imo will create another shift. It’s not like they were founded in the 90s/00s with the sole intent of destroying theaters. Def a distributor of traditional models though
