Opposite for me tbh.

When I watch a movie on the TV, I tend to want to look things up about it or the actors on my phone, get notifications and start texting / scrolling, etc.

When I watch a movie on my phone, I can't use my phone at the same time so I end up swiping everything away and staying more engaged the entire time. I also have ADHD or something where my hands have to be doing something, so I become less antsy and fidgety when they're holding a phone as opposed to when I'm trying to lay/sit still on a bed or couch.

Only time I really watch a movie on my phone is if I’m watching one with a commentary track on the Criterion Channel.

Normally when I watch a movie on my phone I'm just in bed or something. I'm not any more engaged than I am sitting on the sofa.

It's not the same thing at all obv I like going to the theater but I also like watching movies at work on break and s***

Some of us are from the same generation where camrips on dvds was a profitable side hustle. No way you can be surprised at people being satisfied w/ watching a movie on a phone.

Most movies nowadays are basically just “Timothy chalamet and Margot Robbie scream at each other in remade movie from another generation”

To be fair most of the movies you list aren’t the ones that need a giant screen . Do they deserve a theater experience? I would say so yes but are they doing box office gang busters that these companies want ? No

The big screen is a factor, but to me one of the biggest factors is the communal experience of going to the movies.

You can watch a movie whenever you want however you want, but you can’t replicate the experience of watching a movie with a good crowd.

Sure some people’s mileage may vary on that, but watching say a horror movie with an engaged crowd is much different than watching it alone or with one other person. There’s that shared feeling of tension, that collective laughter of relief when you get faked out by a jumpscare. S*** like that matters (at least to me).

I know this part is not a thing for everyone but man even some movies feeling like a rock concert can enhance the experience imo.

Seeing this on opening night with a packed crowd rocking the house was an unforgettable experience. The shared electricity that you and the stranger next to you bother feel because of something like this is something you can’t replicate.

I remember freshman year of college being home for opening night of The Force Awakens. I waited in line from like 12pm for the first IMAX showing (this was pre assigned seating) with friends who came home for Christmas. The jolt of electricity felt in the theater when the Star Wars logo hit the screen was euphoric.

I’ve had similar experiences with smaller movies as well not just giant blockbusters (Ready or Not comes to mind for some reason rn).

That’s what matters. Streaming is trying to kill the communal aspect of moviegoing.

I own some . Do I own an entire wall ? No lol I watched some of my faves on cable tv or theaters .Also I’m not a big rewatcher . I like giving a movie or show my undivided attention once getting that core memory then seek more art .
