Watching a movie on a phone is the equivalent of listening to a new album off phone speakers

Id argue the problem is that usually people watching something on their phone aren't truly actively engaging with it. It's on the device ruining your life lol.

Most movies and TV (should) require the same level of engagement as books or games, ie. "Active reading" and the general population has become so numb to it all via YouTube and social media that their attention spans are f***ed and engage with everything on a very superficial level focused on immediate gratification.

I mean I had a portable dvd player as a kid for car rides but that’s as small as I get.

You can watch movies on a phone or on a computer but I feel like it's usually also compromising the experience. Sometimes thats fine but it can indicate a lack of engagement

This is it 100%. Movies are an artform. They should be engaged with as such, not treated like a piece of content that gives you your hourly dose of dopamine in between social media scrolling

I won’t knock the theater experience but having to physically go and watch a new movie in person because they want to gatekeep it off your own device for months was always lame to me. Even as a kid

Yeah I don’t really think that should be the argument. Just like listening to music off phone speakers isn’t really about the engagement just the quality of it compared to a nice system

I have AMC so I can explain that one.

You pay a monthly fee (price depends on where you live) and you get to see any 4 movies a week in any format at no extra charge. You can cancel your tickets as long as it’s before the showtime. Once the showtime starts you can’t cancel

This week alone I’ve seen:
Eternity
Sentimental Value
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 (Dolby)

I currently have 2 showings of Avatar booked (Dolby and IMAX) as well as No Other Choice (IMAX) booked.

All that in this month alone for $23. That’s not to mention that I’m trying to see Zootopia 2, Marty Supreme, and maybe Silent Night Deadly Night this month alone (sorry Ella McCay impressions make it sound like a trainwreck smh I was excited)

Also I just payed $30 for the popcorn pass so from now until the end of next year, I get a large popcorn for half price every time I go. Only paid $0.15 today for my popcorn today when I saw Kill Bill because of that + the rewards points I had.

Now this is good for me since I literally live 2 minutes from an AMC. So it really depends on how close you are to a theater and how many times you’d like to go. My theater lets me bring in my water bottle so 60% of the time I don’t pay for concessions.

just saw Wake Up Dead Man: Knives Out. very sad that this release strategy is likely going to be the standard for netfarner brothers films! nobody even knows it’s out

my theater was packed but solely because there’s barely any showings!

Seen it last week in a packed theater but unfortunately the majority of people watching it will see it on Netflix

And it’s one of the best looking things Netflix has produced in quite some time!
