Eren was so set in seeking "freedom", he seemingly had no problems in massacring innocent children. Which is ironic, considering what he saw happen to his mother.

He was never only set on seeking freedom though, his response has always been “I’m going to kill them all”.

Nah, Armin has always advocated for diplomacy, and his goals have always been more progressive than Eren. But Isayama ultimately chose to subvert those expectations and turn him into a war criminal.

Diplomacy is noble but so is the liberation of your oppressed people.
