Self "diagnosed" or clinically diagnosed? I don't have either myself but might help to specify.

I know autism looks different in everybody, but one thing I greatly admire about those mid-high functioning is their ability to hyper focus (or fixate, I guess) on something they're passionate about. It may be a symptom but its a damn valuable one if you find a way to monetize it. I wish I could focus on the things I need to like that.

Been low key self diagnosing myself for years and feel like I am for the exact reason you describe here
When you put that obsession into a passion it’s very useful but it does absolutely nothing else in life. It doesn’t help you grow closer to people, if anything it alienates you

I thought that would depend on how well you can function with it. Could range from an obsession that is destructive to yourself and others, to a level of fixation on something thats difficult to pull away from. Or so I thought. In the latter case there is definitely opportunity out there for people like that, depending on the topic of "obsession."

Or you might not be autistic per se but just have a habit of fixating on things, unless you're exhibiting other symptoms as well.

The only reason I don’t have an official diagnosis is lack of money/resources due to what little I do have going towards my transition. Between a lifetime of symptoms, independent corroboration from multiple counselors, consistently scoring well above the threshold in mock diagnostics, and empathizing with and being affirmed by autistic communities, I accepted that I’m autistic about two years ago after a lot of deliberation.

I do have diagnosed Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and I’m not dismissing the possibility of other, overlapping conditions. Still, autism is by far the most comprehensive and satisfying explanation for my particular range of mannerisms. My little cousin is also low functioning autistic. I do want to get diagnosed one day, more for workplace accommodations than peace of mind, but it’s not happening any time soon at this rate.

@op I wish I knew your new account mayne.

I recently found out I was on the Autism Spectrum after taking a few tests like this: aspietests.org/userdetails.php?target=raads/index.php

I haven’t been officially diagnosed, but finding this out changed my life for the better.

It explains all my mood swings, social anxiety, and my intense focus for certain subjects.

Just wanna say if anyone else on KTT2 is on the spectrum, you are not alone! Holla at ya boi WaltDisney!!!!

Just to add one more thing, if y’all do take the above test & you score high, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend these two books

Living Well on The Spectrum by Valerie L Gaus

& Unmasking Autism, Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity by Devon Price

Both A1 books & offer incredible insight
