Very positive was the same thing for Avatar one. But people don't go crazy or fan over it like any other franchise. A lot of the discussion over the past ten years is that no one remembered the main guy's name.

Is it like a silent majority that really pushes for Avatar lol?

It just doesn't have a big fanbase online like other IPs

Wonder if the franchise will maintain this, or if part of this could be due to how long the gap between 1 & 2 were.

    Doubt
Curiosity played a huge factor in this I think

I do still believe that each one is guaranteed 1.5B minimum tho

The phenomenon behind the Avatar movies really is interesting. They kill in the box office meaning people are clearly going to see it, yet I don't ever hear or see people talking about it. When they do the general consensus is "It looked cool but was underwhelming and not worth seeing again." Like the energy around the movies never match the box office success.

I'm assuming that it's performing much better globally?

ima be real wit you bro, movies with a general consensus of "underwhelming but not worth rewatching" don't get a 5% increase in their 3rd week.

a ton of people are rewatching this, it has a 93% audience score rating, word of mouth has largely been good. I've seen a ton of people who say they hate the first movie were won over by this one.

Interesting that a ten year + gap actually seemed to work in this films favour. I don't think that would necessarily translate to every sort of film/franchise but it's an interesting rebuke to the oversaturation model of marvel etc

people might not remember specifics about avatar's characters but they remember how the movie made them feel.

millions of people around the world were transported back in 2009 and they remember that feeling, and they want to feel it again.

as opposed to other franchises where we want to see the adventures of thor part 4

    Gotta disagree

For me Avatar has always been about VFX that’s it

Could also be that there ain't much else to see in theaters currently. What else is there? Babylon? I would say Glass Onion but that's also on streaming and from what I've been seeing is how people have been consuming it.

I'll give them credit for finding the most dead time of the year to put this out. Lotta people home for the holidays, what else is there to do? Might as well go to the movies. Still, haven't heard much about it from people who have seen it.

I also don't care much about audience score because frankly, most audiences are morons. IE: superhero movies.

I’ve heard from many people “cool VFX s***ty story”

I promise you people are going to see avatar just because it’s one of those you SHOULD see in movies

Literally no other reason for the majority I’ll die on that hill

So it's grossing 1.5b in 3 weeks because no competition?

I can't possibly be one of those guys as I actively watched the schlock Marvel was coming out with post-Endgame.

Right, because all film is subjective.

So calling people morons over an opinion makes it sound like films can be objectively bad no?

What else in theaters is possibly going to pull people away from seeing Avatar....?
