If they're bringing this bad guy back for a third movie, I need him to go all the way rogue. Have him start hunting humans and s***. Eventually, by the 4th or 5th movie they have to team up but they NEVER become friends, they always hate each other deep down.

  • If I was a dude in a wheel chair I would start describing myself as a "Jake Sully type" in my twitter/ IG bio.

Apparently in the 3rd film they’ll show a hostile Navi tribe

Maybe he’ll team up with his worst enemies to kill sully

  • Maybe the Na'vi will turn on the Sullys

The story and characters were paper thin. What was the deal with Spider? Why did the bad guy keep him around and care about him when he was siding with the ops the whole time?

Because that’s quaritch’s son. Felt that was obvious

Also like @paradisevalley said he was an interpreter for the humans

I don’t want them to keep recycling the score for these movies hope they switch it up for three

This was my biggest disappointment. The trailer music was gorgeous and in the film it was just avatar 1 OST remixed

the fact that it ended with jake opening his eyes again

Was hoping they’d do this and they delivered
Whole ending was emotional and perfect

no way were bout to have the same boring villain 3 movies in a row

He’s a good villain. Love watching him on screen

I do want them to give him way more depth in these next few films though

It’s one thing to present these ideas. But I think the movie totally failed to make you believe in them. I didn’t buy for one second that Quaritch gave a s*** about that kid. The movie wanted us to believe he did. But it didn’t do any of the work of having them bond or develop a relationship. Even as an interpreter I didn’t buy Spider hanging around. He was fully against their whole plan (he even actively sabotages it in the end) and he was just chillin, not even in a cage or nothin.

I agree about not buying quatrich and spiders relationship. Missed opportunity imo. They could’ve given us a scene or two of them genuinely bonding

I feel like the short scene of them flying was supposed to be that but they didn’t go all in

Yeah I have a feeling his obsession with Sully is going to have him go crazy

I mean thats the point though. Quaritch and Spider both have the memories and an idea of each other but don't technically have a bond and thats what they tell each other. But they are still family and that is why Quaritch drops his gun, which is literally to the surprise of himself.

I think if you were to rewatch the movie you'd realize that its indirectly seen in the little moments that Spider does to some degree have an ackowledgement that that is his father. You see it in little moments (the excitement Spider feels seeing his dad master flying a banshee, Quaritch agreeing to Spider's demands to not shoot the people during interrogations as well as never truly wanting to torture Spider, etc.)

This is why plot is literally a useless mechanic. You see it in these little moments of expression that there is clearly a real bond between the two even if technically there isn't and they tell themselves there isn't. It's one of the most important elements of the film.

@JohnCena to respond to your post in the other thread

You have to also remember his dad also had just saved his life too, when neytiri was about to stab him.

It was tough to see him save him but I think the movie made it very justifiable

I think watching the first movie before going into the second one made me not feel this way. In this movie quaritch is presented as a totally evil person for sure, bc in the eyes of the Na’vi he is, but in the context of the first movie he’s a respected and trusted leader on a mission (to the human world). Not someone who would be apathetic to their own kid.

I felt like it was clear from the beginning he had a soft spot for him when he ended the torture and essentially just said to ride with him.

There were some subtle scenes too. When he decides to not shoot the girl from the tribe that we’re saying they didn’t know where Jake was. When quaritch actually honed that dragon, etc…

In conception, and performance, the character is a straight miss. Wonder if there’s any Spider stans out there. 🧐
