I think that's meant to underscore how in the multiverse 2 different characters can have the same face

The same face has played multiple roles before and they've never felt the need to credit the multiverse guys.

In the MCU it's always been either a recast or an actor coming back for a another role after being in the background of a previous movie for 3 seconds.

It'll either be Maker but Tony instead of ultimate Reed, or he's gonna be in f4 as straight up doom

Casting someone emblematic basically MEANS they'll be acknowledging the Stark similarities and connecting him as a variant to Tony

Only way I see this potentially working, admittedly it's kind of stupid, but we end up finding out there's a multiversal council of Dooms (instead of the Kangs).

Being back Julian McMahon, bring back f***ing Toby Kebbel even. S*** if they showed spotlight to even bad films in DP&W they can do it for this purpose. If THAT is what they do, then a version of Tony being the main Doom in this film then they fight a whole bunch of them in Secret Wars (maybe only like 3 or 4). S*** they can do that, have RDJ Doom become God Emperor, but then after Secret Wars get ourselves a real 616 Doom (preferably played by a Romani actor).

Like if you're going to do this with RDJ, go ahead and play with the multiverse aspect and bring these guys in to establish that this Doom is NOT the 616 Doom.

I personally think he won’t be a Tony variant, and he’ll just be straight up playing Doom.

His face will be disfigured without the mask(and it seemingly won’t be an origin story). So i think that he’ll just be in heavy makeup for the disfigured face, or will have a mask on at all times.
I think they won’t acknowledge him as looking like Tony. We may just get one flashback with a deaged RDJ. But with a different look.

I simply think that the MCU wanted to go with a safe and iconic enough actor to bring back to head the franchise again.
And i imagine RDJ wants to the challenge of playing an iconic villain.

I feel like it wont be any deeper than that.
and in Secret Wars he’ll probably reprise his role as a Tony variant, and will play as both Tony and Doom. And will be attempting an Oscar Nom for a comic book role
