It’s not. Russo’s already said it’s Victor
They also explicitly said that it was "thanks" to the Marvel Multiverse that RDJ could be cast in the role.
Victor Von Doom can absolutely be "Victor Von Doom" and also be an evil mirrored version of Tony Stark. Acting like those things are mutually exclusive is gonna lead you nowhere.

I think that's meant to underscore how in the multiverse 2 different characters can have the same face

The same face has played multiple roles before and they've never felt the need to credit the multiverse guys.

Yeah but none of them were as emblematic for the franchise as RDJ lol
In the MCU it's always been either a recast or an actor coming back for a another role after being in the background of a previous movie for 3 seconds.
It'll either be Maker but Tony instead of ultimate Reed, or he's gonna be in f4 as straight up doom

Casting someone emblematic basically MEANS they'll be acknowledging the Stark similarities and connecting him as a variant to Tony

I posed my idea and I think it’s more likely he comes to the MCU universe from the F4 universe. Absolutely nothing to do with Stark besides looking like him.

I think both scenarios are possible. We'll see.

i hear what you’re saying but the fact that this is as complicated and hard to explain as it is probably doesn’t bode well for the final product?
oh he’s not really tony stark he’s evil tony stark and in the mcu there’s good tony stark who starts the avengers and he’s the best good guy so there’s also evil tony stark and he started the evil avengers so he’s the best bad guy?
^^^see what i mean?
They robbed a Romani actor of a massive opportunity with the Doom role
bulgarians named ivan punching the air right now

That’s so lame though. Dr. Doom is such an iconic and defined character, introducing him for the first time as an evil Tony Stark is wack.
That’s like if the first Spider-Man we got was a Bruce Banner variant or some s***
theres gotta be at least one MF DOOM reference in this one
I actually feel like Disney would be oetty enough to not mention him.
On some “we’re not acknowledging a 3rd party who use our IP’s brand without permission” bs

Only way I see this potentially working, admittedly it's kind of stupid, but we end up finding out there's a multiversal council of Dooms (instead of the Kangs).
Being back Julian McMahon, bring back f***ing Toby Kebbel even. S*** if they showed spotlight to even bad films in DP&W they can do it for this purpose. If THAT is what they do, then a version of Tony being the main Doom in this film then they fight a whole bunch of them in Secret Wars (maybe only like 3 or 4). S*** they can do that, have RDJ Doom become God Emperor, but then after Secret Wars get ourselves a real 616 Doom (preferably played by a Romani actor).

Like if you're going to do this with RDJ, go ahead and play with the multiverse aspect and bring these guys in to establish that this Doom is NOT the 616 Doom.
I personally think he won’t be a Tony variant, and he’ll just be straight up playing Doom.
His face will be disfigured without the mask(and it seemingly won’t be an origin story). So i think that he’ll just be in heavy makeup for the disfigured face, or will have a mask on at all times.
I think they won’t acknowledge him as looking like Tony. We may just get one flashback with a deaged RDJ. But with a different look.
I simply think that the MCU wanted to go with a safe and iconic enough actor to bring back to head the franchise again.
And i imagine RDJ wants to the challenge of playing an iconic villain.
I feel like it wont be any deeper than that.
and in Secret Wars he’ll probably reprise his role as a Tony variant, and will play as both Tony and Doom. And will be attempting an Oscar Nom for a comic book role
