I am in the camp of RDJ being cast as doom is a semi inspired choice regarding the use of the multiverse, no one expected that but it is lazy casting and clear scrambling bc of Jonathan Majors
What exactly is inspired about getting the fan-favorite actor years after the franchise has been in disarray following his departure?
Ask yourself this: do Feige & Co. go and get RDJ so soon after Endgame if Phase 4 and Phase 5 are as culturally significant as Phases 1 and 2?

It’s a bat s*** insane choice no one expected. It’s one of the more fun ways to use the multiverse rather than just nostalgia baiting
You can call it both lazy and weirdly inspired, two things can be true at the same time. I don’t hate it and I haven’t seen what it’s supposed to be yet. If it sucks then it sucks and that’s cool too I’m not expecting much
But no clearly this was supposed to be Kang focused. It is 100% a scramble move
Is this what the MCU is? A failing franchise?
Guys can't do s*** with the new characters, made terrible choices in the next Cap, decided to go the variant route to have more "woke" characters and now decide to bail to the guys who made them good
MCU imploding just in time for James Gunn’s Superman
doomsday/secret wars gonna be fan service mania but honestly f*** it i don't even care anymore im seated
I think this movie will flop. The multiverse killed the MCU and recasting RDJ as doom is a mistake. RDJ is great but this whole variant s*** is a losing strategy so they shouldn’t invest even more in it.
People like myself who lived and breathed for the infinity saga are not even paying attention anymore. Go ahead and kill spider man I mean who cares u can just replace him with a variant. None of it matters
I think they're safe on box office and "hype." RDJ and Evans secure interest from people who largely stopped caring and there's just too much money going into this. Also theaters and even comic book industry need these movies to do well.
They're gonna have Doomsday, Spider-Man 4 and Secret Wars back to back within a year. That's all of their big hitters.
They're forgoing addressing concerns over quality decline by just re-casting the old crew and kicking the can along. The issue is I think they'll still be left with the same issues afterwards which may compromise stuff like X-Men and new heroes after. The hype for following the wider MCU thread has def taken a hit

Yeah you kinda making some points damn. It removes away any emotional impact moving forward knowing they can kill a character and bring em right back

5 billion in a year
Am I the only one who thought RDJ and Evans were gonna come back after Endgame anyway?
Like obviously not in the way it was playing out but as soon as they announced Secret Wars I knew they would be back for at least that
They definitely had so much plans surrounding Kang and Kang Dynasty but for whatever reason decided to dead all of it instead of simply recasting Johnathan Majors...shit is dumb.
I realized how cooked they truly were when it came out that the Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine was originally planned to be from a universe that was directly impacted by the tampering from a Kang, but that narrative was scrapped. They gave up on an entire film/saga that was plotted out years in advance just to basically wing it and go for the nostalgia cash grab.
Just sad to see more than anything.
oof really? Goddamn they been lost the sauce

I don't think people are surprised to see them return as support via a multiverse cameo or something. Evans has already done this in Deadpool 3 and it was fine cus it didn't take over. And we're in an era of cheap cameos from older stars anyways
That's not whats happening here though. They're starring in the film and RDJ is the title character. It definitely comes off to people when we said "goodbye" in the last Avengers film and they're still starring in the literal next one. Baton never got passed and there was no new status quo developed.
Like they did what they had to do to secure success esp after the Majors situation but its rough to see when remembering old MCU build ups and character development. Numbers wise like yeah they're in a good position we'll all be there and it'll prob be enjoyable too

Here’s how I pictured it prior to the Doomsday announcement:
Kang Dynasty would focused on the New Avengers fighting Kang and his variants. They lose, Battleworld is created, and that how the OG 6 (or at least the dead/retired ones) would return and be the forefront of Secret Wars along side people like Tobey and Hugh. So in my mind, they would’ve been a part of the lead team in SW.
These are also ensemble films so it’s not like they’re going to be the sole focus. I still am of the belief that the OG 6 will be the villains for Doomsday via variants and they won’t return truly as the heroes we know until Secret Wars.
I very well could be wrong but this is how I see it going.
Kang being scrapped is the dumbest thing feige has ever done

Colman Domingo & Damson Idris were right there
