Guy who went “ah gee I wish Aaron bushnell killed a bunch of people instead of self immolation” and deleted his post is really itt criticizing someone else for deleting their post and not standing on it. (Not to mentioned he wished death on someone AGAIN in this thread lol)
You can’t make this s*** up.
the songs lyrics r abt as deep as whatever katy perry drivel u can find
she's a great writer and the compositions on these songs r great, but her performance on these songs sounds like "hey i can do country and i dont sound terrible, here's a hook and some verses."
give me substance ! she has substance!
Renaissance didn't have substance, it was Beyonces dance album, her pen was never my biggest thing from her but what I most appreciate about this era is the ability to adapt from her
I thought we were in unison that her talking about getting asked to dance was performative, but when did Beyonce stop being a pop star now

I already live in a messy country with one of the highest homicide rates in the world. Like… Sorry I don’t spend my time thinking about something that happened in another side of the world when I was a young kid

@atthepyramids you're under fire I'm afraid
She's literally attempting to crossover to country, appease the country crowd. In order to take country back in any meaningful, artistic fashion for black people, it either has to great satire or actually great music. If she can't deliver a great piece of music, regardless of genre, she's just competing against all the other country(white)gals.
She' and her fans are gonna want her country album to be praised just cause "Beyonce" made it.

i'll give you that
LEMONADE's writing was ridiculously good, and i appreciated her work in RENAISSANCE
my thing is that if someone wants to genuinely approach country, they have to be genuine about the genre, its background, and its realities
Country before 9/11 was labor-based, it was heavily political, it was narratively divisive, it was lyrical. She isn't delivering here. She's delivering the pop-version blind patriotism of post-9/11 white country. House and Dance were different in this regard so obviously i'd have no issues with pop writing on something like RENAISSANCE.
But when your objective with this trilogy is to highlight the very true black/liberationist background of these works, and you ignore the fact that country music was a vein in which black liberation and pro-black anti-capitalism found itself in your content, I'll obviously be very critical about your artistic integrity

they change the standards depending on the artist, they’ll sing the praises of Rihanna, Dua, Charli XCX blah blah blah, but Beyonce is different

were any of her other albums praised solely because she made it?
or maybe the music was good?
I don’t always agree with what she says, but I do respect the fact that Azealia will call out anybody.
