I would’ve rather he leaned fully into the “piano” sonic theme of the albums core songs and ditched most of the baby Keem/trap adjacent songs, they didn’t help the album that much
And cut We Cry Together. It don’t need to be a double album
That’s a start. The problem is it’s trying to do too much and doesn’t really do either perfectly as a result. Since it ended up being not a huge hit album anyway he might as well have not made all those streaming compromises
That seems really specific but if that's the case I understand why you're disappointed then
Hate to say it, but that couldn't be me. Esp cause we cry together one of my favorite rap songs ever tbh
Bruh he had no promo at all. No less single, no big features. All he had was a tour
We Cry Together is def trash tho
I f*** with the album but the hate it got was unnecessary
Kendrick never had a straight up trash song on an album like that before. He set the bar high. He deserves the hate for we Cry Together alone, it’s ass and the fact he put that out is crazy to me
I personally think it's so funny when this site talks about Baby Keem "flopping" or w/e because I still have him in rotation and so do a lot of people I know
Hell I listened to The Melodic Blue yesterday and one of his songs played at the house party I was at
he not gonna be mainstream ever tho they barely let Trav lmao bro had to get with a Kardashian sister
Antidote + Kylie = Trav career
I think someone said that earlier and I forgot, that’s my fault I’ll have to take the L there. That is still a good to great first week
But the overall impact still feels like it wasn’t great for Kendrick’s standards. Not much staying power really
Yeah its a huge difference lol it was top 3 of the yeat it dropped along with outselling cole and hnm from drake.
Thats a huge deal lol.
And most rappers do terrible when they comeback years later - kendrick doing good & travis the only one probably in history with the outlier.
No the album did great and did an average of kendrick.
Gkmc is 230k fw and tpab 340k fw - this sits right in the middle, while if youre counting it, it did better than the ep and bp soundtrack - only damn being the major outlier which had the biggest mainstream push out of them all.
It is not a flop nor doing bad factual & made the biggest tour, a personal opinion is an opinion.
And it still makes him top 5 selling rap artists with on of the few artists (told by billboard and streamings) that is actually keeping "rap alive" with its sales - yes his whole discog but mmbs included which is still doing fine.
The artists "keeping rap alive" are gunna, future, drake & travis. While everyone else is selling low 200k and under with not much staying growth power consistently.
And also most album stream sales are down including drake (hmm did low 200k, the collab was somewhere near iirc & fatd did 400k which is all low for drake) which is a huge market factor that bolster the "rap is dying" sales wise agrument by labels and billboard - again only outlier is Travis.
Sure you can say its a disappointment or perhaps its lower than some of his releases, but its still did good & is still consistently doing fine. Which most kendrick albums n projects besides Damn due good/fine in their fw but way more make up for it by outpacing everyone else by the end of the year. Him & Drake are the only ones that stay consistent through the year(s) with a release (just that drake also has the explosive fw on top of it as well.
Which again, is normal, such as gkmc being the number 1 most streamed rap album overall while take care is not far behind.
His albums are nothing but legs thay keep moving. Its factual data-wise bro. Including mmbs.
I think more of the fact that his music is mid for the most part
He’s successful in his niche but outside of that what makes him different then any other rapper in his gen that has the same subject matter
That seems really specific but if that's the case I understand why you're disappointed then
Hate to say it, but that couldn't be me. Esp cause we cry together one of my favorite rap songs ever tbh
I f*** with you but this is a wild ass take to me
I haven't sat through a full listen of We Cry Together since the day that album dropped
I f*** with you but this is a wild ass take to me
Let me have an opinion damn
I haven't sat through a full listen of We Cry Together since the day that album dropped
I go out of my way to play that track on my CD very often ngl

That s*** fire. I like how their cadences balance with the beat
Kendrick never had a straight up trash song on an album like that before. He set the bar high. He deserves the hate for we Cry Together alone, it’s ass and the fact he put that out is crazy to me
That one song doesn’t make the whole album trash tho. With that take then almost every album is trash

You definitely got a point but I’m always speaking relative to Kendrick
Of course he’s one of the biggest acts in rap still. And he will remain near the top of the field for a while no matter what he does at this point because he’s cemented.
But I just expected more from a comeback. If it wasn’t going to be as big of a mainstream effort as damn then I at least wanted a fully realized album with no concessions or attempts at bangers if you’re going to make a therapy album. By trying to do both it’s almost like it cancelled each other out and wasn’t as massive commercially as damn but also not as praised by the music community as the other albums. So it is kind average or middle of the road for him in a lot of ways
I go out of my way to play that track on my CD very often ngl
Savior the one for me off that album Mr Morale, give me high five
That one song doesn’t make the whole album trash tho. With that take then almost every album is trash
I don’t think the album is trash. It’s actually good but just not great/amazing. Anyone saying that is just being hyperbolic but it’s a low point for Kendrick.
Yall derailed the thread We're supposed to be talking about how Keem too ugly and short to be making songs about b****es, not Kendrick
That s*** fire. I like how their cadences balance with the beat
Sound wise it's all great, but mashing in that dark realistic storyline to it just hits every note for me
Yall derailed the thread We're supposed to be talking about how Keem too ugly and short to be making songs about b****es, not Kendrick
It’s true, Keem has the opposite of aura
Yall derailed the thread We're supposed to be talking about how Keem too ugly and short to be making songs about b****es, not Kendrick
Nah f*** that nigga using an alt tryna get a hit thread. We taking over
Rappers were always cool like you almost wanted to be like them
No one wants to be Baby Keem. The whiny little cousin of an alien voiced manlet
