I made a thread similar to this on Ktt 1, but that was 9 years ago. It’s time to rehash it. The premise is simple. Jay Electronica is the best rapper of all time, and all of the arguments otherwise are simply too weak to consider. Previously, it was the idea that he didn’t have enough songs, which was as complete nonsense then as it is now. He probably has close to 150 unique songs and feature verses, more than enough to make a full judgment. The other primary argument was that he didn’t have an album. Well now he arguably has 2, despite one being an unfinished leak, so that argument is out the window.

What makes him the best is simple. All you need to do is listen to the song knights of the roundtable, and hear what Hov is saying on the vocal sample. It’s all about human emotions. There is no rapper past or present that has so deftly been able to speak to the shared emotional experience of humans. Love, pain, loss, anxiety, wanting to be accepted etc., are feelings that we can all relate to in some form or another, and Jay Elect encapsulates them better than anyone. He gets a bad rep from some trolls as a lyrical/miracle/spiritual rapper, but this has never been true. His rhyme schemes, delivery, and words are often simple, to the point and rely much more on appealing to emotion than they do to confusing the listener or making them want to look some s*** up on rapgenius.

However, that’s not to say that that is the extent of his skill as a rapper. On a bar for bar basis, his wordplay, storytelling, metaphors/similies and whatever other lyrical device you might choose are, at his peak compared to the peak of other rappers, superior.

If you aren’t familiar with his music at this point and are itching to write this off as nonsense, I can show you exactly what songs and verses to check out in order to change your mind. If you have listened to his music and don’t agree, I need to hear your argument against it show I can show you why you’re wrong

Bars dont have to be super complex if they generate emotion and speak to the experience of humans.

    Jay Electricity, baptized by Felicity
Where he been the past three years? It's just a mystery
If it ain't come from one of my peers, it ain't a diss to me
I'm a thousand leagues under the sea, niggas can't get to me
The F in my middle name with the period stands for "Victory"
I came from the bottoms of Hell with Jezebels
Sniffin' blow with her friends in the dens of iniquity
When I was young, I was confused, I thought God was a mystery
But everything I knew since the time I began to grew
Was taught to me by the wickedest men, who twist the histories
Who pulled out the cuffs of deception and and hitched their wrist to we
Now all praises due to Allah, we seein' crystally
The Pyramids are there to bear witness to the gods
So when the angels heard me spit, they bit their lip, this s*** is hard
Utterly unstoppable, in high school I was voted most popular
By the unpopular, phantom of the chakras

This verse is p much better than most rappers careers

alright but youre dead wrong saying Wayne or Lupe are a "joke" compared to Jay E

Wayne has How to Rob, Hustler Musik, Georgia Bush, Let It All Work Out, so so many amazing songs expressing emotional depth and subject matter

Just cos Jay E went to Egypt and references Islam doesnt make him all that you know, he still comes up with very basic bars and song concepts that are on par with something Immortal technique could come up with, i like Jay E, but hes not untouchable

Immortal technique would never come up with better in tune and they aren't even close to being similar rappers lmao. thats the biggest joke in the thread by far.

AWT barely his album and Act II is out in an unfinished state, both great works of art btw. This thread should’ve been about Ghostface Killah. He’s one of the few rappers who actually cares about the art of rapping and could give two s***s about rap being respected as fine art.
