Fandango got $15 off two imax tickets (the $15 basically covers the difference between regular and imax where I live)

This looks so good. If they adapted the game’s stories into a movie it would be a trash b movie. The stories are by far the weakest parts of RE. Nothing makes sense and it would make for a terrible movie.

Was hoping Suzi would be more level headed about this, but it seems like she’s falling more into the “Zach Cregger isn’t a true fan” type of toxicity.

Guess it’s not that surprising since she’s basically the de facto RE content creator, but still, kind of disappointing since a lot of people kind of look to her as the outsider voice for the series.

Seems like it’s fairly set in stone that regardless of quality plenty of people are gonna claim it’s bad without having even seen it in the first place (and actively refusing to before formulating an opinion) or just straight up hate watching it.

Wouldn't be terrible but yes, the take that it's just a B movie is correct.

Nah, it apparently gets f***ing WEIRD with it, outright grotesque with its monsters, the comedy seems to be primarily situational, driven by the main character’s lack of experience further highlighting the absurdity of the situations he’s finding himself in alongside his reactions.

I don’t foresee there being all that many out and out jokes and one liners. Very in line with his previous films, but this one he’s described as easily his goriest and most uncompromising.

Don’t know how reputable it is, but if they’re trying to keep things secret about the movie (which Zach seems to be particularly considerate of given how the marketing has gone so far) it does make sense, disappointing though, was hoping it would be more akin to Weapons’ embargo, but I suppose the strength of the IP alone doesn’t really require that to boost to up the box office (which is already looking to be stellar anyway).

It just keeps going up.

You’ve got a combination of Cregger, who’s riding on the waves of Weapons’ success (which was not only a hit, but an Oscar winner), and you have the RE IP itself which is the most popular it’s ever been.

On top of THAT you also have the cultural zeitgeist that pertains to the horror genre as a whole that’s currently going on (which Cregger himself helped kick off with Barbarian, which was like the first big post-COVID horror movie that I can think of).

So in the end you’ve got not only the younger generation who loves horror and RE snatching up tickets, you also have the older audiences that grew up with Resident Evil.

It’s like the perfect horror IP movie releasing at the perfect time.

Really great interview here. Talks about how test screenings lead to a lot of the “jokes” in the movie being cut down which lead to the film being better received in screenings (and it apparently went over very very well).

Also, not sure if this was known before, but apparently the package that Bryan is delivering has a one hour timer on it, so I assume that’s a mostly real time clock that’ll be ticking down.

Another cool tidbit I didn’t know was apparently David Fincher and Bill Hader gave some feedback when Zack was making Weapons and Hader read the script for RE prior to shooting and gave it up a thumbs up.

I liked the comedy horror aspect of weapons a lot. Wish he kept them in.

I has hating on the fact that they weren’t adapting the stories from the games, but making an original story during the raccoon city outbreak is actually solid
