ending was so badass and triumphant when you realize it kinda just was a resident evil boss origin flick
Think part of why it feels so abrupt is that the movie is so committed to being from Bryan’s POV that the moment Bryan is lost and the monster takes over, the movie ends because Bryan as a character no longer exists.
That’s a good call, it just kinda caught me off guard at first bc when everyone is fumbling around with the antidote, I was fully expecting us to get the cliche end with him getting cured and somehow surviving. Glad we got this ending instead.

Makes sense too since Bryan is presented as essentially being a random NPC, so he wouldn’t have the plot armor of a mainline RE character. Leon and the rest of them can all tank zombie bites and be fine, Bryan can’t.
Who cares about the fans? He didn’t make this for the fans, he made this for him, a fan, like any other movie. Make the movie you want to see.
I think the point is less about what Zach is going to do and rather what the studio is going to do.
It has the highest opening weekend box office of any of the films and I know Sony is going to make the sequel. They control the IP, not Zach.

If anyone can fumble this, it’s them. Zach Cregger is a big part of the draw of this movie.
Obsession scared the s*** out of me, this wasn’t as tense the entire time due to the comedic stuff sprinkled in there. Just a bit more graphic mans some decent body horror. You should be good
Ayyy thanks bro ima peep then

Sounding like Snyder fans quickly but I get you . Make it for yourself but ask yourself could this movie be made with same set pieces themes and characters without the resident evil name ? I think so . Resident evil is how it gets the budget and more eyes but this project could be financed either way as an original property and entirely work
District 9 could have been an adaptation of a game instead. Looper , jumper so many movies could have been a game movie anime adaptation but exist as they are . Once you choose to attach yourself to a property acting shocked by blowback is like okay
When many didn’t even want this to be Leon or care that it’s a side character nor is that the issue many have
Imagine thinking this ending was bad lol
Ending is good just arubpt even if I understand why

Exactly this
Honestly I’m liking the movie more when I keep thinking about it.
And it’s making me want to do another replay of the games
Haven’t watched yet. What is the tone compared to something like Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead?

Not quite that level it’s hard to compare to tone of any movie fully just go in thinking of again a gamer who experiences the situation and quips to himself often.
top row obliterates bottom row big time
Osgood Perkins and Ti West are odd ones out here.

It’s closest to Evil Dead, up until this point I think the most comparable thing from Cregger himself is the James chapter in Weapons.
Cregger gave a spoiler interview where he talks about the themes of the film and confirms the parenthood themes peppered throughout the film, but also that the Umbrella scientists are very much a***ogous to tech developers and that their annoyingly bumbling, short sighted ways are very much intentionally lampooning those types.
Essentially, to the people who are asking Why don’t the scientists in the end deal with Bryan when he’s clearly infected, the point being illustrated is that these morons are so masturbatory about their own s\*\*\* that they become oblivious to the obvious danger that’s right in front of them, and only try to deal with it when it’s too late and already actively attacking them.
Someone earlier in the thread suggested that. Was that you? I didn't pick up on it when I watched the movie, but when they laid it out, I could definitely see it.
Cool to have it confirmed.

The tech thing definitely, but I think Cregger suggested as such in an earlier interview a few months ago.
