I didn't love the novel but still excited for this. The Nickel Boys by the same author is a masterpiece tho
saw someone say this looks like a Hayao Miyazaki film come to life. I can see that kind of energy in some of these clips I can't wait to dive in into this
idk bout that but Beale Street evoked a lot of Wong Kar Wai from those visuals tbh
we don't deserve Barry man
completely forgot this happened
what’s this song....
i need it
Damn man, Barry can’t miss.
It’s INSANE thinking that his next project is a Lion King sequel
Man first episode was brutal but....like really beautiful? Barry's always good at adapting s*** so it feels like you're experiencing a novel in movie format. Never goes for the immediate fast-paced hook like a Scorsese would or something and you get the same feeling when you're tryna latch on to characters and figure out the plot. Love the score too
also crazy how they ended that episode with Outkast and it worked
Brad Pitt got another classic black project on his hands? Saw him under producers

fr tho i wasn't even a fan of him picking that up but this reminded me that the potential of it with him behind it. Good project for him to go off on in a huge mainstream way, collect a check on a billion dollar movie, and then level up on his future projects

Lion King sequel? Idk about this one guys but hey definitely a big level up! I rather him tackle more black melodrama's/love stories. Something like "Slyvie's Love"... why can't we see anymore content like that??

I’m kinda confused on this post I cant really read internet sarcasm (if that even was sarcastic?) but I meant more like ideas like the Sun Ra Afrofuturism story mentioned a couple pages ago
But yeah I’m excited for everything coming up tho so I’m gladly watching anything. Guess the post came off the wrong way

My apologies, my apologies I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I didn't peep what you guys were previously talking about haha, I saw Lion King and just replied to that. Woah wasn't aware Jenkins had Sun Ra and Madlib in his wheelhouse... that gentlemen cease to amaze me every time. We're all lucky to have an auteur like him in our culture, I'm ardently awaiting to start his new episodic. Contemplating on watching the "The Gaze" first though and then jumping into the show.
the first episode made me listen to Stankonia for the 427th time
if you know you know...
WOW
I had high expectations coming into this but that whole first episode was amazing. Jenkins is the perfect director to adapt the book and everything from the acting, cinematography, set design, music, writing, tone, etc. was top notch
don't sleep on this one because if the rest of the season is on the same level and knowing the story, this could be the show of the year
This s*** is gonna be this good for 10 episodes? Really hope so episode 2 fire also love where this is going

One of the greatest directors of our time made a show and it’s not getting as much love as it should kmt

Absolutely! I felt the same about Mcqueen's "Small Axe"

Trailers looked great. Plan to watch after I finish up The Boys
great watch, so far. I had to take a break, getting a little too stressed/pissed off watching this. 1.5 episodes in
