They def had bops before Rubber Soul. But they reached a whole new level of creativity when they became potheads

Their music doesn't really get great until Rubber Soul imo.

the highs on pre-Rubber Soul albums are high af though imo

    Twist and Shout
    And I Love Her
    Cant Buy Me Love
    Help!
    Ticket To Ride
    Yesterday
    All My Loving

but as far as whole albums you're right a lot of the early s*** was mid af and got left out of the canon lol

bruh they needed 5 dudes to make some mid rock songs. meanwhile doja can do it all

first artists to figure out how to use more than 4 tracks in a single song

imagine if you could only have 4 stems in todays climate

if u dont fw this medley idk what 2 tell u

but the fact the closest thing u had to put up against the beatles was doja cat is concerning

if u only listen to modern music then i get why beatles would sound super dusty for sure though cause u may not have a frame of reference like someone who already listened to a bunch of 60s and 70s s***

is this the version with her majesty in the middle?

but yeah this was a great showcase of what made them great, but it was also cool because it was like a unified and improved version of what they did on their self titled

early albums still better than Let It Be

tbh i think a lot of people do underrate those albums a little bit, I think if you're not as familiar with a context of the times it can seem too simple and you might not understand what makes it special or good at all (especially the covers). and theyre all certainly in the canon of western popular music without a doubt even if not considered part of the peak. id still give em all like a 8/10 but I would have rated them lower years ago

good luck @op make sure to listen to the key non-album tracks too. ie I Want to Hold Your Hand, I Feel Fine, We Can Work it Out, Paperback Writer, Rain, Don't let Me Down, etc.

No offense to OP I clicked this to wish him luck but all KTT2 Beatles threads turn to s*** and this one took a single post to do it

Hopefully he doesn't have to wade through pages of attention starved tryhards to just give his impressions

  • This thread is gonna be awesome. I've been a huge fan forever and it'll be great to discuss each album in depth from the good to the bad with y'all.

Just ignore the trolls and embrace the journey. Beginning might be a little rough.

Help has some awful sequencing but the core songs are AMAZING and you can already see the craftsmanship improving. Hard Day's Night is more solid but those top songs on Help are as good as their best work.

If Beatles for Sale was a 6 track EP it would be a masterpiece

Listening wise, it should be like this

    Please Please Me
    With The Beatles
    A Hard Days Night
    Beatles For Sale
    Help!
    Past Masters 1
    Rubber Soul
    Revolver
    Sgt. Pepper
    Magical Mystery Tour
    The White Album
    Abbey Road
    Let It Be
    Past Masters 2

I'd move PM1 above Rubber Soul because the last song on it dropped 5 months before Rubber Soul

    Otherwise yeah
