This is a hobby for me so I have no pressure to sound any specific way it cut corners. I'm obsessing over every lyrics and melody for the finals. In a way, I've been learrning to make chopped and screwed remixes, getting into djing. I've done some engineering work and have made beats in fl studio in the past but nothing as good sounding to me as the chopped and slowed songs I been putting out.

How do I improve this beat switch. The singing sounds so grand and haunting. I'm legit onto something with this sound.

That beat switch is slick !! Maybe a few more vocal layers with a higher register buried in the mix with some crazy processing ? Some melancholy jazz piano licks ? maybe some chopped up heavy church bells or gong to double down on the gothic vibe. A synth layer on the bassline could definitely beef this up too

I mean I like the dark moody Toronto rnb vibe everything sorta has. You can make good music but it's no guarantee it gets picked up by anybody. At this point in this day and age you gotta go viral or get a cosign by a big artist or a big push of some kind. Hate to say it but marketing is how you get yourself more views/listens getting a good product in people's ears is how you get them to stay.

You definitely have a song or 2 in you that can be good but can it be great? I can't tell from just the demos. Demos can go a lot of different ways though.

That's why I only been putting out songs that I myself am going to listen to and if the world wants to hear that then cool otherwise I'll still be listening cuz what I make isn't something a whole lot of other people make.

Totally agree. You're right that good music alone isn't enough. Maybe I'm deluded but I really believe after years of practice I can make one of the best tapes to come out of Toronto. Trilogy, PND and Majid Jordan came onto the scene in like 2013.
It's been a decade and no one in Toronto has delivered anything like that since. Lots of people trying to do dark rnb fall into the trap of PND like music. Like trap soul type instagram rap singing. That s*** is not dark. It's just ambient. It's easy to male songs like that because it's usually just reverb and autotune. They all.end up alluding like dollar store pnd.

I think my sound is.not that. It's more inspired by Trilogy than PND1 or 2. Idk if thst makes sense. I'm also putting all these demos on diff beats woth one producer. To sound cohesive. It's actually a girl lol. She's pretty fire lol. So instrumentals will sound very unique.too on final.

In terms of promo, I'm finally atba place financially where I can do it. I've made music for years bit never had money to take a serious. 3 years ago I started a bsuiness online and now I run it full time. Idea was to solve the money issue and focus on making a stellar album.and doing proper promo. I'm going to expense all of it through my business and start with $5k to 10k for promo and figure it out.
