  • Looking to get into casual photography, mostly landscapes from whatever area I'm in.

Have read that dslrs are being phased out by manufacturers and mirrorless is getting pushed but still not sure what the difference really is besides battery life and how the actual photo is taken.

If anyone has recommendations or general advice when buying a camera I'd appreciate it

    I am a photographer

    bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1461734-REG/canon_2727c002_eos_rebel_t7_dslr.html

The lens that comes with this will allow you to get wide angle shots, close to a fish eye, and zoomed in shots.

This is great for learning how to frame things properly and really get to know how a camera works.

This is the best bang for your buck rn

You don鈥檛 need to get anything more expensive than this (~$500)

Then, if you want photos with a little more background blur

    Example:

    This lens..

    usa.canon.com/shop/p/refurbished-ef-50mm-f-1-8-stm

    Is just another $100

This camera & lens is the perfect starter setup for someone who wants to get into photography

I鈥檝e been looking at getting a Panasonic Lumix LX3, digicam cuz film cameras are just too expensive at the moment and I鈥檓 not good enough of a photographer to not waste any shots.

Awesome, so I guess the dslr vs mirrorless doesn't really matter. Will for sure be going with this, appreciate you

Mirrorless is great, but it鈥檚 too expensive right now, and won鈥檛 really change the quality of your photos.

They are a lot lighter & smaller though. Which you don鈥檛 really need tbh

Unless you really want that portability

Are mirrorless good in low light?

I鈥檓 not familiar with them, but I wouldn鈥檛 spend that much imo.

I recommend the setup above ^^^ so you can good at photography. Framing, composition, moving your body closer or further from objects, etc.

My body + lens set up is worth maybe $1500 rn. My camera body is like 10 years old I think 馃ぃ

    Body: Canon 6D
    Lens: 50mm f1.2

It鈥檚 a little heavy, but it takes great photos.

You don鈥檛 need to go that crazy at first

is this achievable with a DSLR (not trying to get a film camera cause film is expensive)?

Was thinking of finding some mirrorless camera to take some weight off and then do some editing in Lightroom.

Mainly trying to do outdoor photography and maybe some architecture

    They look edited IMO

I wouldn鈥檛 say those just got developed and uploaded raw.

Doesn鈥檛 take away from the photos, they鈥檙e stunning ofc,
    & just an observation.

But, Can you achieve that digitally with a DSLR?

    Hm

What about those photos do you like?

If it鈥檚 the colors, you can get close to replicating them on with a digital photo on Lightroom/PhotoShop

if it鈥檚 the grain, you can get close to replicating that as well..

But is that your goal? To replicate film?

I would just buy a film camera then.

There any many things to learn from having a limited amount of shots. It really makes you think about composition, and helps put extra emphasis on taking a singular photo.

And then you don鈥檛 have to do any sort of editing & don鈥檛 have to try an replicate film.

(I replicate all my digital photos as film-ic, as above ^, just not to a heavy extent. Because I already shoot film)

yeah, I like the colors and the grain.

you think i should just get a film camera then? but isn't film expensive and takes time to develop?

rather pay a high upfront cost and then not worry too much about doing too many extra steps

My favorite film camera on the market (Canon A-1) runs about $200 give or take

My favorite film (Cinestill 800t) runs about $15 for 36 exposures

And it鈥檚 about $15-20 to develop that roll

    So about $1 a photo

Takes maybe a week to get the photos uploaded to the cloud. I mail them in to The Darkroom in CA.

The process is pretty streamlined and anyone can do it imo.

If you wanna see some of my film work, almost all of my recent posts are shot on film with that camera

my only experience with digital is with fuji (had an x100f a few years ago and now i use an xt30 ii) but I can鈥檛 recommend them enough. I really love the colors I get and how the cameras feel to use, coming from only shooting film before

    Yes.

    You go on their website,

    Make an order,

They give you a shipping label,

You ship it to them, mail back your negatives from the film canister, upload it to the cloud,

    They send you a link,

And you can download a zip of all the files.

    Super easy!

nah no complaints about the xt30 size for me, its nice. I was probably shooting the most when I had an x100f because of its size, I could take it anywhere slip it in a jacket pocket etc
