They either have to make something seriously truly special (less than 1% of music imo) or have a super thick skin to deal with the crazy negativity about almost every new piece of music put out these days.
is everyone just super depressed or what's going on. It feels like people are enjoying the artists at the "top" less and less every year and moving their attention to niche artists instead. Then those niche artists become "mainstream" and they start getting torn to shreds and the cycle repeats.
That's the way it always been fam
Fans want good music they ain't gon be like "thank you for sharing your mid with us, sir"

Nah but people expect every album to be classic which isnt realistic tbh. An album can be average or good and still have plenty of great tracks on it
OP has a point, people love making jokes and they can really affect how an artist is perceived, The Big Day was awful but would it have a better reputation if that 'I love my wife' video didn't exist?
It's like nowadays more than ever, if you make a mistake as an artist you risk becoming a permanent meme that defines how you're seen in the eyes of the public
Ppl dont know what quality is these days
But look at the ppl they idolize
Its not like anyone is showing/saying or doing anything worthwhile
Plus alot of pretention
Everything feels so DIY
So everyone feels like they can do it and that they are actually experts
When most just had money in the first place
The entire concept of being an "artist" is just romanticized and vague

Cuz Macklemore's career wasn't over after sending Kendrick that apology text?
Vanilla Ice was on top but he got so much hate and was parodied that ppl got him tf outta here
Ice Cube after "The B**** in Yoo" by Common, his tough guy image was destroyed
That's just off the top of my head but s*** happens. It was always tough to be a public figure. That's a conscious risk people take when they wanna be famous artists.
You always needed thick skin as a celebrity on the internet literally since it was invented
Always been rough. To really make money u usually got appeal to what's popping atm, which stifles a lot of creativity. Even more so now considering u make barley anything from streaming unless you're one of them ones
Ppl just can't form their own opinions. Too many sheeple.
Just look at the threads on this site
"Is __ album a classic?"
Mfers insecure to like what they like.
It extends beyond music.

Could’ve fooled me with last sentence
A lot of people like mid
even the super special artists deal with the s***. Look at how some people talk about Kendrick lol. the fame comes with it sadly
If Kanye can make it through nah nah nah, these new rappers can make it through anything

Nah Ye got it the easiest in that regard, he got a huge stan base basically a cult that goes hard for him and defends everything he does and says. More stans than any other rapper
There’s this weird thing where an artist has to make their art realistic or it isn’t good
Like people fetishize realism when art is literally not that

Can u give an example of this in hip hop
It’s the consumers fault. Music is essential to all of nature and we take highly skilled people for advantage. We’ll pay $20 for alcohol but will pinch pennies for the music that supplies us memories. We’ll regret that hangover and will sing our way out of it.

Maybe in hiphop there’s this obsession with artists being “real” and kinda centering their music around their real life experiences and avoiding anything else because being fake is being bad
Like yes it’s honest and it’s valid but it’s gotta be boring and unhealthy for the artist after a while. Especially if they’re street rappers who’s content ends up being focused around things like their trauma and struggles
Like go rap about something you didn’t do! Make up a fake scenario for a story! Make it sound good and make it express a vision you see, not just something you materially felt!
Session musicians seem to be happier than the average band looking to make it. There’s more money in production than live sets
