In work: companies are not your friend in this day and age. Back in the day they would reward you for being loyal, now they will just keep working you unless you find an actual exceptional company. So work for yourself and after a year or two start looking for better opportunities with your experience.

Also, as far as I know college is bullshit it did very little in preparing me for actual professional work.
