Haven't actually seen Tickled but have heard of it. Will finally watch it. The sequel Look of Silence goes off too.
this is a fact, still a lot of subtext in the film people miss out on to this day, straight up genius hyperbolic feminist masterpiece
Say more I wanna know
Guess I'll go ahead and copy-paste my post from the other thread, since it seems this is the thread folks are actually using lol.
My faves of the decade:(the lists in each tier are unranked)
All of the films listed are chosen from ones I've rated between 4.5 and 5 stars on LB. I was gonna add more tiers to include the 4 star films (and a few 4.5s I didn't choose), but felt like 3 top tiers was enough as it is. There's just so many other films that are definitely worth mentioning but didn't make these top 3 tiers. Lots of excellent stuff got left out unfortunately.
Shouldn't it say Hong, and not Sang-soo?
Sorry, that was bugging me. Otherwise, there are some great picks here.

Yes it should 😩
I told someone else yesterday that when I was writing the list I was thinking "Oh wait that's not right", but I was being too OCD and kept typing. Then after I took the screenshots and erased the notes, it started bothering me more
But I might have to make new screenshots soon anyway, cause I just saw a film yesterday that definitely needs to be added
Say more I wanna know
glad u asked!
(also for random ppl reading this it includes spoilers for the film spring breakers)
how i view the film is its a satire of the films of the late 2000s early 2010s that were dominating the market at the time of its release, all these films basically boiled down to being super heavy on male gaze and power fantasies for men with no real character for the woman in the film (so for example all Michael bay films from that time), the film marketed itself as a partying film that was straight forward action with hot disney stars showing off their b**** and being "scandalous" and was thought to be just some dumb male gaze fest but when people actually sat down to watch the film it was shown to be a destruction of these male power fantasies by making it so hyperbolic and absurd that it was a over-stimulation of the tropes until your head explodes, this being most clear in this scene imo
alien is pretty much the most absurd take on the dumb and hot guys that ruled these films and he was written to be absolutely otherwordly in personality while still keeping the tropes of the characters from s*** like fast and the furious in it, but in the end the girls ended up being the real hero's killing off gucci's character and outliving alien. also it has been noted by harmony himself that brit and candy (the only 2 girls by the end) are supposed to be "pop sociopaths" which i feel is a commentary on how completely reckless and borderline sociopathic the things people promote in the films that are being parodied are and in general i feel the casting of selena and vanessa was more of a meta commentary on the "good girl gone bad" trope perpetuated by all disney or nick stars after they leave those networks and wanna look more "mature" except harmony made them more mature except it wasn't pretty and glossy it was more so dirty and gross.
By the end of the film were you simply see brit and candy drive off with it being left unknown what consequences (or if they even got them) that they will face and i feel that was meant to just leave the viewer with a uneasy feeling of reality after all the dreamy and otherworldy feelings the film gave us and take us back and let us sit with what really went on in the film.
Apologies if this is a bit of a mess i wrote it on the spot lol, but hopefully you get the points i'm tryna make and why i view the film this way.

Crazy coincidence that you were ITT a few hours ago writing about your love for Spring Breakers, and then just watched Miami Vice and talked with me about how awesome it is in that other thread.
Coincidence because Korine has been pretty vocal about his adoration for Miami Vice and how heavily it influenced him. I even think he talked about it during his press run for Spring Breakers! Haha
Love how things line up like that sometimes
