Elvis always catches s*** for not writing his own material, and indeed he admitted he would trade everything to be able to write like Chuck Berry.... but this is one of the only he songs he ever wrote while in mourning after his mum passed away and its one of the most haunting ballads ive heard him or anybody sing
he was a massive mama's boy and never really recovered from the loss

he also teamed up once again with the songwriter of his old classics Dont Be Cruel and All Shook Up (Otis Blackwell) for this beauty

i keep referring to this page expecting him to have gems but
what are these trash lists @RVI
no orbison
barely any buddy or fats or bo or richard or chuck
all sorts of gay pop songs by people like Frankie Avalon and Neil Sedaka

I guess the label Fats was on for like 15 years folded in '63 and his contract was sold to another label and he was issued new producers and songwriters
this current batch I'm on is probably the last of his classic era. Only got maybe 2 more years till all the 50s cats can't compete with the British Invasion anymore
except Elvis a bit later on
Bo Diddley deep cut that made a big impression on the Brits apparently cause the Yardbirds did a monstrous live version with Yung Clapton. also The Who.

curtis mayfield had a falsetto to rival smokey and played guitar lines so elegant even hendrix tried to emulate him (think Electric Ladyland title track)
