to be fair he gives nearly equal praise to Carlos and Jerry
peep the date on that issue
I grabbed this copy from the gas station on our way to see The Elephant Tour and Jack placed #17 Top 100 Guitarists

glad he figured out how to channel santana's "life and health" cuz this is like a year before he descending into his nadir of d*** addiction and singlehandedly imploding his band

sheesh that's ironic

i think 2003 was a decent year tho so probably one of those cases of briefly having a positive period followed by sinking deeper than ever
One of the best songs ever. Had this on the playlist at my grandmothers wake.
this one not too smooth and orchestrated for you?

It is a little yeah but it was like the centerpiece to a whole dang movie you should watch; Jackie Brown

really did not like Tons Of Sobs but I shouldn't have skipped this last year
they really got some of the most cliche lyrics of their era but still nice arrangements

also

wonder if Koji pinched part of his melody from Yes
@RVI @Aruji @Galaxy
Only listened to Yes once in my life so you tell me

Well you see I've posted YouTube links to the songs I'm referring to so you can spend 30 seconds listening to both and compare
or be weird as usual

Not as good of an album overall as their 60’s records, but still definitely has some gems. I was particularly struck by Bury Me down by the River. That track is like their melodic 60’s baroque/psych pop sound transitioning into the kind of material Elton John was doing in the early 70’s. But yeah I Was The Child was for sure my other favorite off it.

Not a big fan of him but I feel like the Pulp/Suede thing goes back to Scott Walker influencing everybody
I can see what you mean with the Elton thing.. funny cause being from Australia, which was like the wild west - outback version, they can pull off that type of old cowboy lyrical content (hanging tree etc) more legitimately than Elton (who was hugely inspired by The Band like everybody else)

Have you not heard close to the edge?

Yeah despite my avy I’ve never been too blown away by Scott Walker. 3 and 4 are really good records, but rarely am I getting the GOAT status some people throw on him. I think a song like Duchess is incredible, but there’s not many other songs from him that connected with me on that level. His later experimental stuff doesn’t interest me. That being said—I totally get why he was a huge influence on certain britpop bands and many singer/songwriters.
