I thought I was early since I was printing out Wu Tang lyrics to memorize when I was 13-14 but then Shrek and some of the other posters started going in at 11 and 12
17 is when I started going in on the dust
i was going incredibly hard on exclusively EDM from ages like 11-16

I've seen little to no indication of this from all our talks

i was a mini raver. was tapped into those late 00s movements at ground zero level. parents thought i was insane listening to all those bleeps and bloops, i didnt even like vocal stuff. still have a part of that in my taste with my appreciation of the abstract sounds and respect for danceability
then in late high school it became almost all hip hop. only really got into rock first year of college then everything else followed.
(listened to some rock when i was in single digits though just via parents)
Al Green - Get's Next to You
Curtis Mayfield - Roots
Isaac Hayes - Shaft and Black Moses
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
P-Funk - Maggot Brain
Sly & The Family Stone - Theres A Riot Going On
Bill Withers - Just As I Am
Steve Wonder - Where I'm Coming From

this 4 minute coronet solo always got me rethinking everything

I didn't post anything from but I have been listening to it. Weird phase for them but interesting.

Boz Burrell was a really underrated singer for the band, dude had an angelic voice. Whole album is really good but Ladies of the Road is embarrassingly bad, not sure what they were thinking with that one.

Nice cover
Gil's version so deep in my psyche after nearly two decades of Late Registration
Sun In My Morning always gonna be my favourite but its almost on the level
So I listened to it and I really liked it, but I’m not quite seeing what you’re seeing in it. Second half is better than the first half, but I was a bit put off by the shift in singing style—where it seems like they’re either trying to lean into the R&B/Soul vocal inflections of the time or they’re weirdly holding back power in their voice to the detriment of some songs. The title track and the closing track are incredible tho. But like I said, it’s not touching Bee Gee’s 1st or Odessa. Thank you though for pushing me to listen to it.

Those ones are also big highlights. I’ll definitely keep it in rotation. That and this Arthur Russel album I’ve been listening to.

@op how are you liking Elvis Country?
Elvis Country and Love Letters From Elvis both not hitting at all
the deeper I get the more 1969 seems like a miracle

Elvis Country got a few decent ones for me for sure like Snowbird but also suffers from the bizarre decision to cram that snippet everywhere interrupting the album
only Elvis I've heard past that is maybe 10 or so songs included on greatest hits
