The Canterbury scene, proto prog stuff, and the Krautrock side of things tends to deviate from what annoys me about the more popular examples of the genre throughout the 70’s.

I tried really hard to get you to listen the two best prog albums I discovered last year
Check these two songs out at least

Technically I don't really like prog either, but when you find gems like this

A buddy of mine just recommended First Utterance by Comus—which is also apart of that scene, so I’ll definitely check out all of these very soon.

8 minutes in and I can't pin this vocal melody down at all
Fair bit of Yes to this
For years I was an Exile on Main Street denier, but over the years the record has grown on me a ton and there’s a good case to be made that Tumbling Dice is the best pure rock n roll song. I was recently listening to the Lemon Twigs album from 2020 called Songs for The General Public and there’s tons of Stones worship on it. The opening track feels like a love letter to both that album and Dylan. It increased my appreciation for Tumbling Dice even more than I already had.

Never heard of that one

It sounds up my alley. Apple Music describes it as “dark harmonies, tense strings, eerie vocals, disturbed lyrics, and pastoral musicality.” I’m hoping for a Melancholy Man level track.

i think ive only listened to live version like once so idk if its much different or anything but all the melodies are really catchy to me
i think that was one of Genesis strength's more than most (Yes for example) and in a way it makes a lot of sense that they gradually drifting towards full on catchy pop
Never heard of that one
couldve sworn you were already a fan tbh but im pretty sure youll love it
exact same to you @HeyFella
Comus isn't really too rock-y or anything though. wouldnt go in expecting prog rock more just straight up bizarre, psychedelic, complex mindblowing folk

Id say Long Tall Sally is the best pure rock and roll song but I agree Exile is the most organically shambolic, earthy collection of rock and roll tunes ever assembled (Blonde on Blonde close behind). Id probably take White Album and Village Green over it because of the more distinct sonic variety but Exile still makes everybody else sound like posers.

Yeah it’s not normally “my sound” but there’s something special about it.

Rocks Off is the one for me. probably my 2nd favorites Stones song, and such a perfect intro to Exile
