i think ive only listened to live version like once so idk if its much different or anything but all the melodies are really catchy to me
i think that was one of Genesis strength's more than most (Yes for example) and in a way it makes a lot of sense that they gradually drifting towards full on catchy pop
This isn't the version that's your top 5?
why tf did you link it
Yeah it’s not normally “my sound” but there’s something special about it.
Product of its unique environment. Same as spooky haunted castle Ok Computer.

because the visual performance part of it is cool
and just skimmed it and its almost the exact same anyway from what i could tell besides one little guitar part i noticed and a greater pause so Gabriel could switch into the flower costume (

I have a feeling that the period of their career that would connect with me the most would be the middle transitional era before they go full blown Phil Collins pop, but where they’re still holding a bit onto their artier prog sensibilities.
Fkn 17 minutes into the version he's only heard once
its not your first time hearing it though i thought?
im skipping to all the best parts in that vid now and its still absolutely astounding and only suffers imperfect audio quality
dont let my praise affect your opinion too much but its worth hearing many times to digest anyway. Foxtrot album overall is amazing

If it's on Foxtrot then yeah I must've heard it but half f***ing hour songs take a while to sink in plus this is live
Gave up on the album cause this thread was getting close to the 70s

yeah that stuff is great. ive been really liking the first two albums with Collins as lead singer but they didnt even drop the prog yet for those really.
im not as familiar with it yet but I think Duke is probably the one that most exemplifies what youre thinking about. id say it could be "prog pop"
ive never been big into his solo stuff but Phil Collins voice is pretty much baked into my ears because he's my parents favorite singer

Yeah he was never a great solo album artist. Some killer singles tho.

ok yeah def pick it back up, you also know its good with the Fella cosign even though its the type of prog he usually wouldnt like
im guessing you didnt hear 1971's Nursery Cryme much then either?

I did, wasn't digging it
I like solo Gabriel a ton but he's bugging me on these

nursery cryme sank in a lot for me recently. their true opus is coming for 1973 though
and guess im the opposite where i was never able to get super into solo peter gabriel before
where i liked his voice less

I just mean his monster hits Sledgehammer and Shock The Monkey which were ubiquitous when I was a kid. I haven't listened to a full solo.
A buddy of mine just recommended First Utterance by Comus—which is also apart of that scene, so I’ll definitely check out all of these very soon.
Comus album sounds very cool
Masterpiece
I was pumped to see Takashi Shimura in it
Tbh I thought his desire to study Godzilla instead of killing it even after it had destroyed half Tokyo was kinda veering into mad-paleontologist territory.
