didn't Ray himself love that song? but yeah its just decent to me and I can understand people hating it
cant wait until you meet Ray one day and accidentally let it slip that you think Kinks are psychedelic and he will slap you
If you don't think Dave was out there tripping balls
man was 19 years old
Also I've seen a Ray show front row in a teeny club
he saw me stanning, basically pals
the kind of childlike nostalgia that is psychedelic to me is the Syd Barrett or July kind
Do you really think Syd would exist without Ray
I've heard him acknowledge the Kinks influence
The lead guitar is on I'm Not Like Everybody Else is lysergic as f***
trust me
Its Dark Star in miniature
just listened again and actually yeah tbh, i hear the psych in the guitar (tone) i didnt really realize before, different from a lot of those other kinks songs
Dark Star comparison just baiting me though

doesnt matter, doesnt mean the influencer is psychedelic
Syd wouldnt exist without blues either but that doesnt mean they were psychedelic

news to me :datass:
Just read a ray interview from that year where he says if he didn't find his wife Rasa he would be gay probably
the good bad and the ugly came out in 1966 and it's film score is incredible
Few Dollars More as well
both tremendous masterpieces
news to me :datass:

yeah Dave a bisexual legend and apparently talked about it in his autobiography
Pete Townshend too but i think thats more well known since he made Rough Boys
doesnt matter, doesnt mean the influencer is psychedelic

I'm saying Ray clearly invented that particular strain of psychedelia even if Syd and Lennon took it too way more psychedelic extremes
That whimsical lilting melody thing began with Well Respected Man

Are we not going to acknowledge Rainy Day in June with its ominous rolling thunder intro then big clap on the chorus
lyrics evoking a Tolkieneaque world of whimsical fantasy
you think you would have had half the songs on Piper without this? I don't
Their particular brand of oooh la la la harmonies hit me as the yin to The Yardbirds gregorian chant yang and hit so
when you're smoked out which counts as psych

Didn't know that about Pete either but that explains some lyrics

invented the brit whimsy yes but if well respected man is psychedelic, literally every british pop/rock song from 1965-1969ish is psychedelic if you squint hard enough by your apparent standards

no, i was actually gonna mention that i'd never deny the songs like Rainy Day in June and Fancy as psych. but a few songs on a 14 track album isnt enough for me to proclaim it as psych
FWIW I'd also posit that Face to Face is their most psychedelic album, feel like the next few after were just progressively more grounded in reality and even intentionally going against the psych trend

in not saying its psych but thats when Ray found that a new delivery that was even more potent than You Really Got Me which he developed into these '66 stunners and definitely influenced Syd
Didn't know that about Pete either but that explains some lyrics
"Tough boys
Come over here
I wanna bite and kiss you"

you really got me still a top 2 kinks song tho
"Tough boys
Come over here
I wanna bite and kiss you"
Not sure what song you're talking about and Ringo saying Boys in 1963 but I didn't take him literally
Not sure what song you're talking about and Ringo saying Boys in 1963 but I didn't take him literally
Pete solo song Rough Boys in 1980
did Ringo sing about wanting to kiss the boys though?
Did you ever hear this neglected trailblazer?
"John Peel introduced the song with the comment, "This is to my mind the best popular record that's ever been recorded"
!https://youtu.be/q8IyuQWAv-Myea this is fire. is this a Nugget?
HM to Johanna
stuck inside mobile and i want you have to be top 5 as well. I Want You might be his most potent "pop" song
ok some proper Beefheart footage
crazy to think how hard these guys were about to zenith the next year
look at this s***, frolicking on the beach to some beefheart. 60s were something else
i feel you on the inconsistency, Revolver is one of those masterpieces with a few tracks below the rest for me too. still pretty much tied with Revolver for #2
Got to Get You Into My Life is amazing though
and i thought you liked doctor robert. For No One is great but never a masterpieces for me, but Here There and Everywhere still always hits. i actually used to despise Yellow Submarine and thought it was a huge blemish but I don't mind it now, i like basically all of it except the chorus
Eleanor Rigby the real overrated one on there
one of those albums where the highs are so ridiculous that the lows don't take too much away from it.
Tomorrow Never Knows,She Said She Said and For No One tops for me there. For No One gotta be a top 3 Paul track, the fact there's so much to it yet as concise as it is still blows my mind. just a gorgeous tune

do the Kinks win 66 for you? or is Blonde on Blonde enough
