Op also make sure you have speakers that have some sort of amp. (component where you're able to adjust the volume etc)

Any reccomendations?
i dont see the point, honestly. i always told myself i'd buy a sick audio set up first before ever buying a record player. which i did (got some nice monitors + audio interface ) but once i got it i noticed i aint ever gonna be playing s*** off vinyl anyway
in reality, a good pressed record, (not trying to be a snobby audiophile) will always be way higher quality audio over digital

could be any speakers tbh.
for example Im still using these old ass s***s that ive had for like 10 years. Sound great to this day.
The part in the middle with the knob is the amplifier.
If you already have a set of speakers, you'd just need to get an amplifier if you dont have one

agreed. Most new pressings are digital pressings so they're basically what you listen to on apple music. But some are legit pressings from masters which sound great.
All depends on the company that pressed them, the album, etc.

How does one differentiate a pressing?

O
How can you tell if its a high quality press?
Usually they're pressed on thicker, heavier vinyl. But you can have heavy vinyl and still a s*** pressing, you kinda gotta just do some research

if you go on discogs theres lists of every known pressing of an album and it will tell you the differences.
As far as knowing which one sounds better, typically the earlier/original pressings will sound better, depending on which company did the pressing.
If something has "RE" in the title, it means its a reissue. Tbh I try to stay away from reissues, but in certain cases, i've heard the reissues sounding better than the original, it's all up to research tbh.
Tbh tho, you should be good most of the time, as unless it's a really bad pressing, you wont be able to tell as much when you're first starting out.
So in essence, the pressing is differentiated by the company who did the pressing, country, year, etc. Some may sound just as good as others, where some may sound slightly better. It's all varied.
O
It depends on the artist tho, if you're looking for a modern rap album from the 2010's, yeah good luck finding an incredible pressing. They dont sound bad, just not as good as they could tbh. But it's still better than streaming, I should've reworded that, because streaming is much more compressed than a digitally pressed vinyl record.

You can tell em as soon as you see it cause they got a banner across the top of the album art that says "Original Master Recording"
They make some of the best records because they actually lease the original masters for their pressings
