These are only the artists who have directly stated Drake as one of their influences. The list would be 10 times longer if I included those who didn't.

    Sure

He has had a direct influence on Bryson Tiller, Tory Lanez, Kanye West, Summer Walker, A Boogie, 6lack, PnB Rock, etc...

I could go on for days tbh

I couldn't find an article where Kanye said he was influenced by Drake but Drake said Kanye is the most influencial rapper

he's the main reason why all of the rappers nowadays sing and is one of the main reasons why hip-hop is #1 music genre now. he put Toronto on the music map and sharped music sound from there.
yeah, he hasn't done anything historical

Drake is the main reason rappers are singing? That’s odd. Ja Rule, Andre 3000, 50 Cent, Nelly, Kanye, etc all want a word with you. And these are all legends in their own right and primarily who most of the 20 somethings who are doing music now grew up listening to.

Drake definitely put Toronto on the map, only to then be a hindrance to some of the better artists growth.

And as far as how the music sounds, well, Drake should not be the sole benefactor of credit given Boi-1da and 40 are the moving forces behind that.

Where did I say that he was the first rapper that started singing? He just popularized it and made melodies and singing much more important in rap. Only real haters will deny it

Nobody accused you of asserting that. The point was there were equally popular artists who current artists grew up listening to for years that do or did what Drake does. So to give him an immense amount of credit for it is nonsensical.

And singing / melody has been a part of rap pretty much since the advent of 90s R&B, the only nuance is that who handled that gradually shifted over to the rapper, and unfortunately pitch bending your voice with auto tune has been the trend, which is not a Drake thing lol.

Even as far back as the Late 80s you had Biz Markie singing his own hooks and rapping his verses

Single Sales were a thing even in the 90s, especially in the late 90s.

the song peaked in the 30s

Chart position has no bearing on pure sales or its longevity, especially in the longer term

That's why Cardi B still was the best selling female rapper in terms of singles sales this year despite everyone trying to create the narrative that she fell off just because they saw her singles didn't stay top 10-20 long enough for them.

My name Is went 2x Platinum and Guilty Conscience did an extra 500k. Guilty Conscience didn't even chart and still went Gold lol.

Drake's on top for more than 6 years and some people here tryna say that he is not MJs lvl artist

MJs reign will never be replicated

My parents had Thriller on cassette and they were in Afghanistan at the time, it's just that everyone listened to music in the same couple of places so some artists were literally unavoidable and that's just not something that can happen again with streaming

also never knew madonna was like THAT

Madonna was at an unreal level in the 1980s...

Have to understand people didn't have the same resources we do today to find smaller niche artist to champion or divide their attention thin

When there was a popstar like Madonna at her peak people gravitated to THAT

It's not that rappers are singing. There's an entire lane Drake created for himself and others have ran with and adapted to since So Far Gone, Thank Me Later and Take Care. Artists like Post Malone and Halsey are direct responses to artists like Drake. These are who run the charts now with great music.

The Bryson Tillers, Swae Lees, 6lacks etc

Post Malone cites Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Kurt Conain, 50 Cent, Kanye, and Key! As his main influences

Halsey grew up listening to both rock and rap, cites Panic at the Disco, Lady Gaga, Manson, Beck, Kanye, Amy, the Weeeknd, Bright Eyes as her influences, her words not mine.

Swae Lee, unclear but together with his brother have discussed Lil assume, David Banner UGK and Three Six as influences

6lack has cited Sade Usher The-Dream
And T-pain... this one makes perfect sense lmao

Bryson is the only one to mention drake as an influence and gasp not even his main influence which he says is OMARION.... as well as the dream r Kelly Mary j.....

It’s not so surprising these people cite the stuff they either grew up listening to or actively listen to, drake is almost nowhere to be found.

    Quit giving him unwarranted credir

You just gave Kanye the same credit in an earlier post? When he doesn’t have the same impact
