The Taliban were the enemy, not the people of afghanistan. The legitimate government of afghanistan was allied with the us

  • War was unjust and unwinable from the beginning.

I would be extremely happy if this truly did come to pass, and I’m sure situations there are trash for Afghanis regardless.

But just curious — would this be a positive situation for Afghanis or a worse situation? And if better, how?

Biden is not withdrawing US troops for any ‘humanitarian’ reason—US imperialism is convinced it is pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into an unwinnable war and is attempting to cut its losses and use more low-intensity tactics to secure its interests in the area.

In February, Biden’s administration brokered a meeting between the Taliban and the government of Turkmenistan, another supposed violator of ‘human rights’ that has never seen US military intervention or sanctions, in order to facilitate the building of the Caspian pipeline.

I support the pull out but let's be clear. The taliban are likely to take over and begin a new era of complete terror for women, the hazara minority, and all Afghan. They will likely run out of medicines.

And no, none of this is a CIA talking point at all. It is an immutable fact that Taliban controlled afghanistan was complete hell. America does suck often but a lot of this site allows its disdain for America to blind it to these facts. Saying these concrete realities are american constructed is proof you hate America more than you love Afghanistan

It is also despicable that biden refuses to raise the refugee cap

Afghan government: can you help us fight off the Taliban

    Ktt2: this is imperialism

I’m in the military and a lot more has gone into trying to turn that government competent than you might think

That military got some of the best training and resources the United States had to offer and were unable to perform and made absolutely 0 progress in 20 f***in years. If the afghani government that we tried to establish and military were worth a f*** we wouldn’t be having this discussion now

I personally have not been to Afghanistan but am close to a lot of people who have been and it’s a lost cause and has been for a long time.

That's fair enough and a good point, please offer more of your 2 cents because I'm interested in your take on this

Well, tbh to keep it blunt the afghani army as a whole is full of f***in cowards who aren’t willing to fight for their own country. That’s a small part of it

Also you have to remember, Afghanistan has never been a country that at any point has had a strong centralized government that was accepted by their people. Tribal allegiance is very very strong there. How can you expect a invading country to come in and establish a strong government and competent military for people who resisted this for hundreds of years? It’s impossible and was doomed from the jump.

I’ve also heard stories of firefights going down and the Afghani army running with the US right beside them, even worse when left to their own devices

Whole thing was a s***show that could never of been won.

This seems like a good point

Afghanistan as a national identity is constructed and despite training there may not be the independent will to protect ir right?

    Am I reading that correctly

    they said its a misunderstanding

the current limit was set by the previous admin and expires in like september or october, after that they can raise it

and they're allowed to admit more if the cap is reached

    Am I reading that correctly

Yeah, no independent will to protect it or desire to. Hell most of the soldiers who were in the army themselves apposed a central government and didn’t want the USA there

Also think about it like this: how can you teach a guy how to do land nav, read maps, compasses when the motherfucker can’t even read or write?

Also there are more cultural issues that caused a lot of static between the United States and afghani’s but I won’t get into that.

The fact of the matter is that the only solution there has ever been for the United States is just to pack up and leave, the reason it took so long for us to do it is because if left to their own devices Afghanistan would of been right back in the talibans hands within a couple months but it has to be done. S*** has been dragged out and we have no moral obligation to those people.
