“Words cannot change or rewrite history,” the foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, responded on Twitter. “We have nothing to learn from anybody on our own past. Political opportunism is the greatest betrayal to peace and justice. We entirely reject this statement based solely on populism.”

Basically Turkey is very angry about this because many Turks are extremely nationalistic and worship Ataturk.

Who cares about pissing off turkey?

They are the only country in the Middle East that is historically a reliable ally.

Turkey does not nationally recognize it as a genocide, but as mass killings committed without systemic organized planning. Turkey's strategic importance to the US is why presidents have historically avoided the subject beforehand. Erdogan and the AKP will likely see this as a spit in the face

He didn't participate in the genocide what are you talking about...

And what does being Muslim have to do with anything

Ataturk wasn't against Muslims... he was pro-secular and against Islamists

  • Apr 25, 2021

If anyone is whatever about this, remember that no US president up until now, not even Obama, had recognized the genocide for what it was. So it is a big moment for Armenian Americans.

Have they even formally acknowledged and apologized for American slavery and Jim Crow and Segregation

  • Understand the questions being asked in this thread about Americas own crimes but make no mistake, this action is huge and morally the right thing to do
