hearing rumors big sean is picking up casey veggies on here and going to push him hard. since the industry blackballed him for trying to finesse his deal like frank ocean he's been working hard man people dont understand the talent he has. when he drops culture going to shift.

Is a producer not an artist?

Not in the same sense as a rapper or a singer where you are in the front.

Dancing all in the videos dont count. Puff was.damn near an artist but it's not the same.

The OVO artists have no stress or pressure when it comes to making music

    They make great music

They have all the connections in the world

Can open for any drake tour or show at a moment’s notice

But oh no OVO so bad for artists

so, in other words, it worked?

lol multiple labels have been brought up that "worked" and you seem to have your own personal criteria for that which is irrelevant.

    there's no way G-Unit and Roc-A-Fella didn't work. lmaooo

Even after their fall off Banks had a gold album, Buck the world is probably inches away from being gold too. They continued to tour ww well into the mid 2010’s. Banks popped up with a sleeper hit in 2010 while under 50 still. I’d say they were successful.

theres a difference between G Unit as a group working and G unit as a label working. As a label, they distributed records from Lil Scrappy, Governor, and 40 Glocc. Classic records right!?!?!

ok so you have to let the thread know what YOUR criteria is. because majority of the answers you've been given have been valid.

if your definition of "worked" is that EVERY artist they put out had to pop for MULTIPLE years/albums, then you'd have to describe that homie.

Who cares about the losses? Every label has failed acts

G-Unit had an impactful run and as a label they were successful.

    Until.they weren't.

Difference is most artist labels dont have the financial backing the majors have so when the hits slow down they have to scale way back or shut down completely. The old labels will always be around in some form or fashion.

my definition for label success is the ratio of signed acts to successful acts is high. G Unit had damn year 20 acts. only 5 of them were even incrementally successful (achieving gold status, cultural relevance etc.)

thats literally untrue, they're all backed by major labels. none of the labels we've talked about were independent, they all had joint ventures with major labels soooo they definitely had the money

Not the same money that the major labels have. These "labels" that rappers have are really imprints. They dont have the power to market and distribute themselves like a Atlantic or Warner Bros who are owned by billion dollar companies.
