Hip hop fans don't rly buy albums like pop fans. A "hip hop" artist like Drake outselling say future is a reflection of how much more pop Drake's fanbase is not of his relevance in hip hop.

For example 2015 Drake has iyrtitl which is huge but is that really bigger in the culture compared to DS2 and monster? Drake gets crossover support from pop fans while future is totally hip hop and even if sales support Drake more future is probably more influential/liked within hip hop

    streams are sales

    fax lol

  • I actually kind of agree with this outside of some choices

For Kanye he would be top 2 or 3 every year he dropped though, even in 2012 with Cruel Summer

just say you hate drake and keep it movin

i don't hate drake and obviously he did impact hip hop, i'm talking about 2018 specifically? maybe u lack reading comprehension. in 2018, drake was riding off having rising stars on his singles and heavily criticized for making an unoriginal album full of filler.

U going way back to a time when mixtapes were a huge part of hip hop.

Drake was overall huge in 2015 but if you liked modern hip hop in that year future was your guy

You just sat here and said Drake, who completely ran hip hop in 2018, didn’t impact the genre in any way possible

    That doesn’t even sound logical

in what way did drake influence hip hop in 2018 that is noticeable even 2 years later? did you misread that 8 as a 4? i'm not denying drake didn't have a huge effect on hip hop in previous years i'm saying his star is fading and has been for a few years.

    This is just false
Drake dropped a surprise album and did 500k first week
All your hypotheticals are irrelevant in this convo
Drake up to this point had literally one pop single to his name in HOWGH

I’d argue 2015 Future was the biggest, and hottest rapper out. Numbers don’t reflect it though.

Not when Drake had IYRTITL and the Meek beef. OVO Fest 2015 was his pinnacle

I'm not gonna sit here and act like Drake didn't have more fans and buzz than anyone else that year. In that case ig op is right

But we all know future was the one who influenced everything about modern trap and that was mainly cus of his 2014-2015 run. Overall Drake was bigger yea but future was for the culture.
