the error in majority of people's thinking is assuming billboard charts represent listening habits, popularity or impact
its always been a list of money. the charts arent wrong. bts are number #1 in that they have the most money being put in the marker that is Butter. it's just that in this instance, it's coming majorly from fans instead of companies

TOTC seems like the perfect page to start that chart but they already shot down the idea lmao
imagine fleecing minors out of their money to buy a god damn song just so you can have accolade
these c***s should be taken off the #1 of Soundcloud too
Probs to bts for selling that much
atrl figured out that 1 person was responsible for 20% of butter's sales
not a big enough nerd to know whats going on with BTS and LNX
BTA has an extremely hardcore fan are so they will always sell well which is BS but no rules are broken
f*** the bts army weirdos

I mean rolling stone have had a chart w a better methodology than billboard for over a year
It’s just that no one gives a f*** about it
Same problem as the Grammys - they’re dogshit because they essentially have the monopoly and that’s also why competition isn’t an option - artists care about the Grammys and they care about Billboard
atrl figured out that 1 person was responsible for 20% of butter's sales
link? i wanna see lol
atrl figured out that 1 person was responsible for 20% of butter's sales
Bro what? That’s absurd lmao
Of course they’re not gonna change it
Theyre song sales regardless of how bullshitty they are
Sorry how are they bullshit?
Sorry how are they bullshit?
They essentially pool money from a ton of fan donations and then use VPNs and prepaid credit cards and s*** to buy a ton of copies and skirt the 4 copies per account rule and get super high sales
The money actually exists but it’s done explicitly for chart purposes it’s not fans just buying the song for themselves
BTS also kinda encourage this w stuff like this
All of these remixes combine to count towards the main songs chart placement but because they’re technically a different version you can buy 4 copies of each version and have 20+ copies counting towards chart placement

Fan donations? They're asking fans for money?
Hmm. This gives me an idea. Should I start my music career and then start a cult? Or should I start a cult and THEN start my music career?
Fan donations? They're asking fans for money?
BTS aren’t it’s stan accounts that pool the money
KPOP stans are another breed, they got the number game on lock.
The fanbase are excessive loyal to the artists, which both means buying more albums and repeatedly streaming. They also do these collectible postcards that you get in albums, which results in fans buying albums in bulk to collect them all. Additionally some of these albums acts as a lottery for online/irl fanmeets which generates even more sales. It's crazy
Though i think the Kpop industry is weird and unoriginal. I would say American artists can learn a thing or two from BTS in terms of fanbase support for their own careers.
I got you
Notice the streams and sales for butter vs every other song under it
So, the actual biggest song isn't #1...
So, the actual biggest song isn't #1...
No and they allow it because BTS brings in ungodly amounts of traffic

Its not fanbase support, its a handful of lunatics
Its not fanbase support, its a handful of lunatics
It is fanbase support, they just value concrete numbers and records over the actual music their artists make. It’s a different value set entirely.
If you go to the actual bts fan communities they actually almost had a civil war over Permission to Dance because a lot of the ARMYs acknowledged the song is objectively some f***ing trash and didn’t want to support it, but most of the fanbase continued to buy and stream it regardless (because that’s how you participate in kpop fan communities)
