50 bruh that s*** was hard but shouts out the black album

  • Apr 8, 2023

Get Rich or Die Trying is the more iconic album, and was a bigger moment in 2003

Jay came back after retirement and dropped more albums but 50 was untouchable during those years

  • Apr 8, 2023

50 has said that he feels like Jay stopped dropping albums during his run on purpose

    Black Album is a masterpiece

GRODT a classic and still fire but it’s not as impressive as TBA production wise or lyrically imo

  • Apr 8, 2023

black album is way more important 2 me as an individual & a way better album 2 me as well but GRODT is undeniably the larger cultural hallmark

Going with Black Album but Get Rich has grown on me over the years

I was running College Dropout same time as Black Album too which adds sentimental value for me. Ye was starting to get a lot of attention around the time Black Album was still making waves. Had Lucifer and Encore on repeat. I was lowkey sad about Hov retiring but it felt like Ye was gon carry the torch

I was a huge Roc fan back then. Just preferred that sound. Jay music felt so monumental. Songs like What More Can I Say were like movies to me. He had a lot of songs that felt larger than life. Still go back to PSA and 99 Problems. Those beats too epic man and Jay did exactly what he needed to do. Always had the sharpest flows and could carry a track without forcing it.

Love the singles. Dirt Off Your Shoulders was ahead of its time imo. Timbo was on one fasho

50 was ok to me but I wasn’t all the way tapped in. I do remember his music being everywhere though. Iconic singles on Get Rich. What Up Gangsta one of my favorite songs oat too. In retrospect it’s still one of the greatest debut albums ever. Nigga came out the gate runnin s***, it’s crazy to think about. Nobody really matched this energy on a debut album ever again tbh

    • personal impact: Black Album
    • cultural impact: GRODT no question. 10th best selling hip hop album of all time in the US, Some of the singles on here were absolutely massive
    • I like Black Album more. Still in rotation pretty regularly whereas I only listen to a few tracks off of GRODT these days
  • Apr 8, 2023

As a whole Im listening to GRODT over Black Album most days

Hot take: Black Album very overrated even tho Jay is top 10 for me
