i don't like that it'll become commercialized, or that white (and non-black people) will be getting that day off of work, or that it'll be incorrectly recognized as the true emancipation date when there were still slaves in kentucky, delaware and new jersey until the 13th ammendment was ratified, but folks from texas like opal lee have been fighting for years for it to be recognized as a national holiday and i respect the effort it took. just hope it isn't treated as a consolation prize but a launching pad to get more done

Black people need to get better at gatekeeping our culture plain and simple. Too often we have had elements our culture, our language, our music stolen from us and commodified. Either because we were on that "Y'all welcomed at the cookout!" bullshit or because it simply just got stolen.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Juneteenth becoming "mainstream" or commercialized. That's gonna happen even if it's just Black people celebrating it. It only becomes a problem when Black folk can't keep the holiday within our community and give these white/non-Black corporations our money during Juneteenth/Juneteenth weekend.

Juneteenth must be STRICTLY Black. Let these goofy ass white folk and non-Black people attempt to do profit off of it. We must make sure they fall flat on their faces. If there is a Black talent who decides to perform for any white run Juneteenth event they must be called out for that goofy s***. They know good and goddamn well there are many Black ran Juneteenth events across the country they can give their time to.

Is Critical Race Theory something worth researching/getting involved?

Covers institutionalized, systemic, and systematic racism along with redling and gerrymandering. I'd recommend it. Pretty easy read too the edition of Critical Race Theory: An Introduction is about 220 pages or so.
